Community Manager - English (Anime & UK Culture Knowledge)

Location: UK

Language: Native English Speaker

Availability: 5 hours per week (on average), with some weeks busier than others due to deadlines and project needs
 

Overview:
We Could Use Someone Like You in Our Crew

As a Community Manager, you will work closely with the project management team, client contacts, and the wider group of social and community managers across the business to support internal and client objectives.

Crunchyroll is a subscription video-on-demand streaming service that distributes primarily East Asian media, including anime and manga.

We are seeking a social media professional with a proven track record of translating, trans-creating, and localizing content for social and community posting to support strategic planning and operational delivery.

As a ModSquad Community Manager, you will be imperative in building, maintaining, improving, and empowering our clients and their digital communities. Additionally, you will play an important role in the growing ModSquad digital team, developing social media efforts to grow and support our company.
 

What You’ll Do

The day-to-day tasks of a ModSquad Community Manager and Strategist vary, but basic responsibilities may include:

  • Work closely, efficiently, and effectively with the client and internal teams (communication is daily)

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to deliver strategic and operational goals

  • Design and execute weekly and quarterly content calendars and strategy plans

  • Brainstorm activities, opportunities, and content to inspire or grow community (long term and campaign based)

  • Create and report KPIs to the development team, and build reports that showcase performance, trends, and opportunities

  • Manage and respond to customers through forums, websites, and social media tools, including native and third-party platforms

  • Learn and explore new tools and platforms that improve workflow and client objectives

  • Develop practices and improvements, or build upon and help improve current methods of operation, including social media management, community management, social ROI, engagement, content moderation, and digital experience

  • Handle occasional community crises or troubleshoot escalations

  • Translate, trans-create, and localize content for social and community channels

  • Support strategic planning and operational delivery across social and community initiatives
     

What We’re Looking For

A successful candidate needs to have confidence and strength in the following abilities:

  • Be a proactive, self-starter and independent contributor with follow-through on all initiatives

  • Have strong problem-solving, creative writing, and editorial skills

  • Showcase strong communication skills and feel comfortable communicating both the good and the bad

  • Be confident connecting with clients and colleagues via video calls

  • Enjoy engaging with and developing a broad range of people, communities, clients, and trends

  • Be able to execute community initiatives, measure results, and modify programs based on feedback

  • Retain and demonstrate excellent organization and time-management skills, with the ability to schedule work effectively and meet deliverable deadlines

  • Be flexible and able to meet client deadlines

  • Have experience managing communities on behalf of professional entities or companies, either as a Junior Community Manager or Lead Community Manager

  • Have active and professional experience with forums, Discord, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Instagram

  • Experience with additional platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, etc. is a bonus

  • Be a creative copywriter who understands the balance between professionalism and meta, fun community initiatives

  • Have professional translation and localization experience into your native language

  • Be passionate about Anime and Manga

  • Have strong knowledge of UK culture and the UK marketing region, with personal experience living or working professionally in the supported market(s)

  • Be a Crunchyroll superfan
     

Desired skills and pluses:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, with a minimum of 4 years in Social or Community Management experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of disciplines, articulate key points, and present information effectively

  • Strong understanding of social media and community management

  • Professional experience with translation, trans-creation, and localization

  • Strong knowledge and passion for Anime/Manga and the Crunchyroll community

  • Knowledge and understanding of UK culture and marketing trends
