Description
Supervises and participates in the work of various types of city crews engaged in concrete, storm drainage and street maintenance. Operates various equipment required in assigned duties. Responsible for training of new employees in construction techniques as well as safety requirements. May occasionally work overtime or irregular hours as required for street maintenance work. Performs related work as required. Minimum age of 18. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and must possess a minimum of a valid Class "C" driver's license from NC. Class “B” CDL preferred.

Supervises a crew in the maintenance and repair of city streets.
Clears drainage ditches of limbs and debris; supervises the removal of snow from city streets.
Performs routine inspection of equipment, including checking fluid and fuel levels.
Installs and repairs storm drains.
Supervises and instructs employees on work methods, procedures, standards, and safety practices related to their assignments.
Operates heavy equipment as necessary.
Prepares daily work reports.
Makes on-site inspections of work in progress.
Patrols streets to detect necessary repairs and improvements.
Supervises and participates in the repair of pot holes.
Assists in the preparation for special events.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Knowledge of street construction, maintenance, and repair procedures and methods.
Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of city geography, including the locations of streets and rights-of-way.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment and hand and power tools.
Skill in supervision.
Skill in interpersonal relations.
Skill in oral and written communication.
