About the Role
At ZT Systems, we are continuously constructing new manufacturing facilities and R&D labs and retrofitting our current facilities to meet the ever-changing demands of our products. ZT is looking for an experienced Construction Project Manager to join our growing Construction Management team. The successful candidate will take a hands-on approach to all phases of construction, from design and planning, through procurement, implementation, and turnover.
The Construction Project Manager will oversee construction projects related to engineering lab buildouts, facility expansions for manufacturing, and energy/utility upgrades. You will be the key interface between ZT’s internal stakeholders in operations and research and development, and our construction management team as well as our architectural/engineering partners. As such, the role requires a combination of both technical construction knowledge, especially with mechanical and electrical building systems, and project management skills. Relevant experience in the planning, design, and construction of manufacturing or industrial facilities is highly desired but not required.
ZT Systems currently utilizes over one million square feet of manufacturing, warehouses, test labs, and office buildings in Secaucus NJ and Georgetown TX, plus additional space in eleven foreign locations. The role will be based on-site in Georgetown, Texas and will include occasional domestic travel.
What You Will Do
- Fundamentally understand and assess technical needs from stakeholders and translate their requests into project requirements.
- Lead construction scope reviews with internal engineering and operational teams, engineering, and architectural firms.
- Oversee the planning, design, budgeting, permitting and construction of new laboratory and manufacturing space as well the expansion of current facilities.
- Manage construction documents using our electronic plan room, including plans, specifications, RFIs and submittals.
- Partner with our Construction Management firms to develop scopes of work for contractors, conduct bid reviews, make award recommendations, and initiate construction contracts.
- Provide overall construction site management and coordination between ZT production and contractors.
- Review all proposed changes for effectiveness and impact on cost and schedule.
- Establish and operate effective management systems for project scheduling, contracting, budget tracking, and procurement.
- Facilitate turnover of completed projects to internal stakeholders in engineering and operations, and the facilities management team.
- Proactively assess facility power and cooling capacity based on the forecasted needs of the business.
- Develop and comply with company standards project specification, and local requirements.
What You Bring
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or comparable experience.
- 4-8 years of experience with construction, construction management, or facilities management in an engineering and/or project manager role
- Project management experience in a construction environment from design phase through planning and procurement, implementation, and project turnover
- Proficiency in reading and assessing construction plans and specifications.
- The ability to effectively partner with technical stakeholders to define requirements and verify that the solutions meet their needs.
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in contracting and budget management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar authoring tools, and Autodesk Build, PlanGrid or similar electronic plan room applications
- Demonstrated technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment and building systems related to large academic, healthcare, commercial and/or industrial projects.
- Experience related to the design and/or construction of data centers, test labs, or industrial facilities.
