Who You Are:
  • You have a passion for working with the autism population and ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • You get the job done and are capable of strategic thinking while simultaneously rolling up to your sleeves to lead and teach by example.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills, specifically involving documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other related administrative tasks.
  • You are fluent in ASL.
  • You are proficient with Microsoft Office 365 and other related applications.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Follow the RID Code of Professional Conduct and EIPA Guidelines in all professional decisionmaking.
  • Provide accessible communication and interpreting services in academic settings, meetings, and school events for D/HH, deafblind, DeafDisabled, and hearing individuals.
  • Serve as a sign language model, presenting content at an accessible language level for individual students.
  • Provide tutoring support, including vocabulary preview, concept review, and guided practice for D/HH, deafblind, and DeafDisabled students.
  • Communicate and document student progress with the transdisciplinary team and participate in relevant meetings, including ITEP and CSE.
  • Prepare thoroughly for interpreting assignments through collaboration, provided materials, and independent research.
  • Prioritize educational interpreting above all other interpreting needs while maintaining confidentiality on a needtoknow basis.
  • Set up, adapt, and support the use of materials, equipment, assistive devices, and emergency protocols as directed.
  • Contribute to overall school safety, productivity, and operations within assigned work hours without compromising interpreting responsibilities.
  • Support social development by informally teaching conversational signs to teachers, staff, and peers.
  • Build strong relationships with students, peers, and staff while collaborating effectively across departments.
  • Interpret or assist during crisis intervention or behavioral situations when needed.
  • Demonstrate skill in crisis management and deescalation for students with autism, mental health conditions, or cooccurring diagnoses.
  • Transport students in a company vehicle to day to day activities may be required.

Position Requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, required
  • Successful completion of the written portion of the RID (National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) certification exam OR successful completion of the EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) with a score of 3.5 or higher is preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year interpreting experience with deaf/HoH population; required, preferably in a K-12 educational setting
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to pass a DMV driving abstract screening preferred; ability to transport students in a company vehicle may be required.
  • Certificate of completion or equivalent from an accredited interpreter training program (ITP) is strongly preferred, though relevant experience with D/HH, deafblind, and Deaf/Disabled students may be considered.
  • Preferably completed a supervised internship or practicum in an educational setting.
  • Due to the nature of work in supporting our students, all job description list the physical requirements for that position
  • You must be able to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass and gravel.
  • Must be able to react and move quickly during student crisis, both for the safety of the student and for the staff.
    • Must be able to run across the campus and throughout the school to catch/monitor an eloping student, and/or to remove yourself from an unsafe situation.
    • You must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools).
      • You must be able to bend, stretch, sit, stand, crouch or kneel for sustained periods of time if implementing a hold.
