Highlights:
Summary: The RN - First Assistant shall be responsible to render direct intraoperative nursing care to patients by functioning as a First Assistant to the Surgeon. The RNFA shall practice an expanded role of the Perioperative Nurse and will have acquired knowledge, skills, and judgement necessary to assist the Surgeon. This individual shall carry out the functions that will assist the Surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal result for the patient and is under the supervision and direction of the Surgeon. The RNFA shall render direct patient care as part of the perioperative role in compliance with the Alabama State Board of Nursing, the standards of American College of Surgeons, and the AORN Official Statement on RN First Assistants. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within scope of the role. Education / Experience: Degree in Nursing, Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum 2 years diversified Operating Room experience. Membership in Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) preferred. Completion of RNFA program and in process of obtaining clinical hours to sit for RNAS-C exam within 6 months of hire. License / Certification: Valid RN licensure required, CNOR required, BLS required, ACLS required within 6 months of hire. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Knowledge of proper body mechanics.
• Ability to communicate properly, verbal and written.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, policies, journals and collected patient data.Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Sitting 10%, Walking 30%, Standing 60% of the workday.
May require long periods of continuous exertion without opportunity for break.
There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.
Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 150 pounds.
There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.
Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.
Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Frequent noise exposure.
Much exposure to computer work.
