Medical Assistant

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting physicians and care teams to deliver exceptional patient care in a fast-paced ambulatory setting. This position combines clinical expertise with outstanding customer service to ensure a positive patient experience and efficient practice operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and clinical staff with patient care and office workflows.
• Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, medication lists, and other clinical information.
• Prepare patient charts, perform pre-visit planning, and manage documentation and data entry.
• Perform routine clinical procedures including EKGs, rapid strep tests, urine dips, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, and other approved diagnostic services.
• Administer medications and vaccines according to established protocols.
• Educate patients on medical conditions, treatments, and wellness initiatives within established guidelines.
• Coordinate referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up care, including urgent and STAT requests.
• Monitor quality reports and assist in closing gaps in care to support quality outcomes.
• Maintain inventory and stock levels of medical supplies and medications.
• Monitor and document vaccine storage temperatures in compliance with Department of Health regulations.
• Follow infection control, safety, and environmental protocols.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, Department of Health regulations, and organizational policies.
• Protect patient demographic, clinical, and financial information.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and patient-centered care.
• Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Certification

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program (9 months or longer) or a minimum of three years of Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory setting within the past five years.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Skills & Knowledge

• Working knowledge of medical office procedures, clinical protocols, and patient care practices.
• Ability to utilize electronic medical records (EMR), scheduling systems, and other healthcare software applications.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients, providers, and team members.
• Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
• Understanding of patient care across all stages of life, with sensitivity to cultural differences and individual needs.
• Proficiency with computers, scanners, and other office technology.

Experience

• Three years of Medical Assistant experience in an ambulatory setting within the last five years preferred; recent graduates of a Medical Assistant program may be considered.
• Experience with electronic medical records and appointment scheduling software preferred.

Pay Range:

$18.13-$29.90
