Shop Mechanic

Description

The Shop Mechanic is responsible for evaluating, disassembling, repairing, assembling, balancing, and testing industrial motors and related equipment. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and experience working with motors and mechanical equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform teardown, inspection, repair, and assembly of three-phase electric motors.
• Perform pump and gearbox repairs.
• Perform in-house balancing of applicable components.
• Operate test equipment to evaluate motors before and after repairs.
• Accurately complete work orders and document repair findings and work performed.
• Identify and create accurate lists of parts needed to complete repairs.
• Properly label, organize, and track components throughout the repair process.
• Identify items requiring outside machine work and route them appropriately.
• Use electrical testing equipment, including a multimeter, as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Assist coworkers and other areas of the shop as needed.
• Follow established safety procedures and work instructions.

Requirements

• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
• Experience with electric motor, industrial maintenance, automotive, mechanical repair, or similar hands-on work preferred.
• Basic ability to read and use a multimeter.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document repairs.
• Basic math skills, including working with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to read and follow written, verbal, diagram, and technical instructions.
• Ability to solve practical problems and work independently when appropriate.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed.

Schedule & Work Environment

• Regular schedule of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime as required.
• Ability and willingness to work in a shop environment that may be hot, cold, and/or poorly ventilated.
• Ability to regularly stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and handle tools, equipment, and components.
• Ability to regularly lift and move items weighing up to 70 pounds.
• Adequate vision and depth perception to safely perform job responsibilities.
