Description

This is a management position responsible for the City’s Fleet Warehouse Operations Division.  This position is responsible for the direct supervision of multiple employees, who operate daily under the planning, scheduling, assigning and directing of the Manager.  This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair and management of the entire City fleet and the management of the City’s warehouse operations.  This position reports to and works under the General Services Director. 
  • Supervises and directs daily operations of the City’s Fleet & Warehouse Operations, ensuring organized, effective and efficient operations.  
  • Supervises mechanics in the maintenance, repair and management of the entire City fleet.  Coordinates and supervises all maintenance work and repair orders using Dossier software. Monitors progress, maintains repair efficiency and accuracy in reporting when determining service life of equipment.
  • Schedules, assigns, directs and, if needed, takes corrective actions with all subordinates.  Completes employee performance evaluations and completes bi-weekly timesheets on all staff within the Fleet and warehouse operations.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and enhances a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the entire City fleet. Assists in the diagnosis and troubleshooting of automobile, and light and heavy equipment problems.   
  • Ensures proper automotive and equipment-related testing and training for all Fleet Operations Division employees.  
  • Maintains an updated and accurate computerized listing/inventory of the entire City fleet.
  • Liaises with all Departments and Directors in developing specifications for the acquisition of all City fleet, including automobiles and equipment.  Coordinates with the Purchasing Division to ensure all city equipment needs are met.
  • Responsible for the operation of the City’s central receiving warehouse and fleet operation stockroom.  Oversees perpetual inventory of supplies and the equipment of the City and ensures completion of monthly and annual inventory records and reports utilizing Munis software. 
  • Assists the Human Resources Department in assessing and estimating damage to all City fleet and ensures damages are properly documented prior to repairs being performed.  Works directly with all supervisors and managers on any and all fleet-related issues.    
  • Coordinates with the SAPD and Nightlife & Permits technician to ensure City fleet and “Vehicles for Hire” are inspected as required and regulated within the Code of the City of St. Augustine. 
  • Ensures consistent application of all safety regulations and policies. Maintains compliance with all Federal, State (Florida Department of Environmental Protection), and local laws and regulations related to fuel tank storage and vehicle repair shop operations. 
  • Prepares, administers, and monitors annual budget. Provides reports to management on budgeting, scheduling, maintenance, and fleet progress. 
  • Responds to emergencies and performs other duties as assigned by the General Services Director.  
High school diploma required.  Some college courses and instructional experience preferred. Must have three years of supervisory experience, preferably in an automotive and equipment repair facility and five years of relevant work experience.   Combination of education, experience and abilities may be substituted for supervisory requirement.  Fleet maintenance management experience in metric driven environment preferred. Proficient personal computer skills including e-mail, record-management, Microsoft Office Applications, etc.  Must have knowledge and experience with a fleet maintenance/management software program.  

Driver’s License Requirement:  Valid Florida Driver’s License Classification B-N

The employee is regularly required to effectively communicate and exchange information with others. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day in varying climate conditions. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and see various colors including red and green.
