Overview:
We are seeking an entry-level paralegal to join our corporate legal team. Our team supports our principal's portfolio of companies across several industries, including retail, wholesale distribution, restaurants & cigar lounges, hotels & hospitality, cannabis, and commercial real estate.
In this role, you will support multiple legal functions, including franchising, drafting and submitting regulatory filings with Michigan's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, communicating with municipal and state government employees, and conducting legal research.
Tobacco and/or cannabis regulatory experience is preferred but not required. Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong research skills, the ability to track and meet deadlines, and effective communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
· Support attorneys with franchising efforts, including preparing and administering deliverables to prospective franchisees.
· Draft and submit filings to Michigan's Cannabis Regulatory Agency, the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and municipal governments.
· Research local ordinances to support our growth and acquisition strategy for tobacco and cannabis businesses.
· Research and draft written correspondence on zoning regulations to support our growth and acquisition strategy for tobacco retail locations.
· Track deadlines for license applications and ongoing license maintenance for our tobacco and cannabis businesses.
· Communicate with employees of the Cannabis Regulatory Agency and municipal governments regarding applications and license maintenance.
· Assist attorneys and other paralegals with drafting corporate governance documents and other legal deliverables as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies, legal studies, business administration, or a related field.
· Strong analytical and research skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
