Overview
The Admissions Officer is responsible for the recruitment and evaluation of candidates within a designated geographic area. This role involves engaging with prospective students, organizing and attending recruitment events, and utilizing innovative strategies to attract a diverse applicant pool. The Officer collaborates with internal departments to develop recruitment materials and ensures the smooth execution of admissions operations. Additionally, this position requires providing guidance to applicants throughout the admissions process and may involve travel and flexible scheduling to accommodate various recruitment activities. The Admissions Officer must support the university's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Required Skills and Abilities
1. Attention to detail and strong time management skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
2. Excellent analytical, planning, and project management skills, along with a commitment to maintain confidentiality.
3. Superior communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated excellence in public presentations.
4. Proficiency in computer skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new software programs.
5. Knowledge of the admissions process at highly selective institutions and the ability to counsel a diverse applicant pool.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Prior experience in recruitment, marketing, communications, event planning, or admissions. Familiarity with CRM systems such as Slate.
2. Experience with holistic and contextual application review within a college or university admissions office.
3. Preference for candidates with a Master's degree or significant experience in a related field.
4. Strong understanding of the values and mission of the institution, with the ability to effectively communicate these to prospective students.
5. Valid driver's license and the willingness to travel as needed for recruitment purposes.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Evaluates all admissions applications, interviews prospective applicants, and independently assesses each application against a variety of factors, including the applicant’s strength, weaknesses and potential contribution to the Yale community. Determines applicant’s standing within local, national and international applicant pools. 2. Presents applicant recommendations to admissions committee. Briefs admissions committee about applicants and about schools and geographical regions as they relate to evaluation of applicant files. Determines which applicants will be waitlisted 3. Develops public presentations designed to promote Yale to prospective applicants. 4. Advises secondary school counselors, applicants and parents on the application process. 5. Coordinates alumni recruiting activities in assigned geographical areas. 6. Serves as a liaison with organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process. 7. May perform other duties assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
