Summary:
A golf starter is responsible for managing tee times, ensuring a smooth flow of play, and providing excellent customer service to golfers. A marshal is responsible for helping to maintain a proper pace of play while assisting with members and guests to resolve any on-course issues that may arise.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Manage Tee Times: The golf starter coordinates tee times and ensures that all groups tee off at their scheduled times. This includes checking in players and managing any delays or issues that arise.
- Customer Service: Provide information to golfers about course rules, policies, and facilities. The starter must present a professional and positive image while interacting with members and guests, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere.
- Pace of Play: Monitor the pace of play on the course and direct players to the first tee at appropriate times. The starter may also need to address slow play issues and communicate with marshals to maintain an efficient flow.
- Equipment Management: Ensure that golf carts are ready for use, maintain an adequate supply of scorecards, pencils, and other necessary items at the first tee, and oversee the cleanliness and organization of the starter building and staging area.
- Assist with Course Operations: The starter may assist in tournament setups, manage the driving range, and provide instructions on the use of practice facilities and GPS systems on golf carts.
- Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of tee times, player names, and golf cart assignments. This includes maintaining communication with other staff members regarding course conditions and player needs.
- Must have computer (tablet) experience and knowledge/skills of operation including, but not limited to, the inputting of players and tee times into tablet and/or phone, tracking all players, cart numbers, tee times in our tee sheet software and Golf Car Mounted GPS System.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in a customer service role, preferably in a golf or hospitality setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of golf course operations and etiquette is a plus.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Language Skills:
The individual must have the ability to communicate effectively with employees and clients at all levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing.
Availability:
Varied working hours to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
License/Permits/Certifications Required:
Valid Driver’s License and State mandated vehicle insurance.

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment:
The attendant works in a well-lighted, clean environment. S/he constantly interacts with other people, and may have to handle several responsibilities at once. The Association maintains a smoke-free environment in its offices, buildings, and Clubhouse complex.
