Department: Accounting, Economics & Finance

 

St. Edward's University, a nationally ranked, independent Catholic university and Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in Austin, Texas, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Accounting in the Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance within The Bill Munday School of Business, beginning either January 2027 or August 2027.

The Bill Munday School of Business is AACSB-accredited and delivers an experiential, values-based education anchored in the Holy Cross traditions of learning and service. The School prepares students to excel professionally in the dynamic 21st century business environment by integrating entrepreneurial thinking, social enterprise, innovation management, business analytics, and global collaboration into all of its academic and co-curricular programs.

 

The successful candidate will develop and teach accounting courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior teaching experience in cost accounting, advanced accounting, and data analytics is preferred. Teaching experience or expertise in tax accounting is also desirable. The Department of Accounting, Economics, and Finance hosts innovative, AACSB-accredited curricula in accounting, accounting analytics, accounting information technology, applied economics, and finance, emphasizing experiential learning, and also supports the Master of Business Administration program. Tenure-track faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda leading to publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, refereed conference presentations, and other impactful intellectual contributions while also serving the needs of the department, school, university, profession, and community.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Accounting from an AACSB-accredited university.
  • Ability to develop and teach Accounting courses in undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the classroom, with preferred experience in both in-person and online modalities, and proven ability to integrate experiential learning across the curriculum.
  • Experience incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and/or emerging technologies into the curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research and publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals in Accounting or other relevant fields.
  • Willingness to engage proactively with the business community in Austin; at least two years of industry experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to lead and/or collaborate on Accounting co-curricular programming and student mentorship and advising.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a sincere commitment to collegiality.
  • Experience with and commitment to working with a diverse population consistent with the St. Edward's University mission.
  • Willingness to engage fully in the life of the university.
  • Documented proof of identity, employment eligibility, and completion of a successful criminal background check.

 

 

Essential Responsibilities Include:

 

Candidates should have an interest in and the ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as support a diverse student body.

  • Fulfill teaching requirements of a 7-course (4-3 or 3-4) teaching load per academic year, teaching and prepping courses as assigned. St. Edward's University is a teaching institution and regards teaching as central to its mission. Courses may be in-person, hybrid, or online as assigned and required for student needs; undergraduate classes are scheduled for weekdays; graduate classes are assigned for weeknights and occasional Saturdays.
  • Interact with the business community in Austin and beyond to develop applied projects and opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate effectively with other faculty and staff in organizing or supporting co-curricular programming for St. Edward's Accounting majors, potentially including professional development events, VITA or other service-learning initiatives, CPA preparation sessions, and/or student organization advising.
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring for undergraduate students.
  • Participate in assessment of student performance in the discipline.
  • Maintain AACSB Scholarly Academic status through an active program of high-quality research leading to publications in peer-reviewed business journals.
  • Maintain regular, on-campus presence and meet School and University expectations for service through participation on committees and in campus initiatives.
  • Fulfill other faculty responsibilities as outlined in the St. Edward's University Faculty Manual.
  • Other duties as assigned
