Finance Manager – Permanent– based in Northampton, NN4
Job Purpose:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to join a growing business and play a key role in its continued development. Working closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team as part of a small, collaborative finance team, you will be responsible for the effective delivery of core financial operations for the business, including VAT compliance, payroll, budgeting, forecasting and monthly reporting.
The role combines hands-on financial management with strategic oversight, making it ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented and commercially minded finance professional who wants to make a genuine impact, improve processes and contribute to wider business decision-making.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare and present monthly management accounts, with commentary and KPIs, to the Managing Director and senior leadership team.
- Prepare consolidated year-end accounts for the company and liaise with external auditors and accountants.
- Lead the annual budget and regular reforecasts, providing variance analysis against business objectives.
- Manage cash flow forecasting, planning and monitoring across the businesses, including banking and treasury.
- Oversee the purchase and sales ledgers, supplier payments and credit control.
- Process and manage monthly payroll accurately and on time.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Manage statutory compliance, including PAYE, P11Ds and Corporation Tax.
- Maintain accurate financial records across all cost centres and entities, supported by robust internal controls.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, systems and reporting.
- Partner with operational, e-commerce and product development teams to deliver accurate, insightful reporting.
- Provide financial insight to support strategic planning, business cases and commercial decision-making.
- Supervise and develop a small finance team.
Person Specification:
- AAT Level 3 qualified (minimum) or equivalent experience.
- Strong understanding of management accounting.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and PivotTables.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate financial data.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Familiarity with accounting platforms such as Xero or Zoho Books.
- Knowledge of SaaS metric reporting and CRM system integrations.
Experience:
- Proven experience in a finance or management accounting role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage payroll, prepare management accounts and deliver accurate cash flow forecasting.
- Experience producing consolidated accounts and working closely with operational teams to support financial decision-making.
- Experience working in SaaS, e-commerce or subscription-based business models.
Hours of Work:
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a flexible choice of 8:00am–4:00pm or 9:00am–5:00pm.
