PRN, 3rd Shift  

Respiratory Therapy 

The Respiratory Therapy Department provides specialized cardiopulmonary care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. Respiratory therapists work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to assess, treat, and monitor patients experiencing breathing difficulties and cardiopulmonary disorders. The department plays a vital role in improving respiratory function, supporting critical care services, and promoting positive patient outcomes. 

The certified respiratory therapist assesses, treats, and monitors patients with respiratory diseases and conditions. This includes the delivery of medicated and non-medicated therapy as ordered by the provider. Additionally, therapists provide invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilator support for acute respiratory failure. As part of patient assessment and management, the therapist performs diagnostic test procedures. In addition, therapist assists in departmental operations by addicting with quality improvement projects, equipment, and supplies. The certified therapist follows all applicable rules and regulations established by the licensure board depending on the state in which respiratory therapy is practiced. 

Job Description: 

• Provides respiratory care and therapeutic treatments in accordance with provider orders and established standards of care. 

• Responds to emergency and critical care situations, including Code Blue, Rapid Response, and high-risk deliveries. 

• Provides airway management and monitors patients receiving invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support. 

• Performs and/or assists with advanced respiratory procedures, including endotracheal tube insertion, arterial line placement, and bronchoscopy. 

• Performs respiratory and diagnostic procedures, including pulmonary function testing, blood gas sampling and analysis, oximetry studies, and other testing as trained and competent. 

• Completes patient assessments, provides recommendations to providers, and educates patients and families regarding respiratory therapies, medications, and disease processes. 

• Documents patient care, communicates information necessary for continuity of care, and supports departmental quality, safety, equipment, and process improvement activities. 

Requirements: 

• Associate degree in Respiratory Care required; Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care preferred. 

• No prior experience required; healthcare, customer service, or limited permit/student respiratory license experience preferred. 

• Current respiratory therapy certification through the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care required. 

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care required. 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required within 90 days of hire. 

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within six months of hire for therapists working with the neonatal population.
