The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor welcomes inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Associate Provost, Strategic Initiatives, available on or after June 1, 2027.  The Associate Provost serves under a 12-month tenure-track faculty contract and will report directly to the Provost of the University. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.

Administrative Responsibilities: 
Primary responsibilities include managing stakeholder engagement and communication regarding University strategic initiatives; leading major cross-college initiatives; conducting program reviews and designs initiatives to respond to program outcome needs; working closely with Recruiting/Admissions to determine potential student programmatic interests and to ensure recruiting materials align with program content and industry needs; conducting market research to determine industry trends and future industry demands, assisting in campus programming for professional development opportunities for faculty; assisting in the preparation of special reports, documents, and presentations; supporting Academic Affairs in establishing priorities and goals, policies, and practices; tracking and following up on a wide range of programs, initiatives, and activities for Academic Affairs. The Associate Provost will also provide administrative oversight and strategic leadership for the Townsend Memorial Library and the Center for Digital Learning.

The successful candidate should be a: 
  • Communicative leader who can build relationships both within and outside the University;
  • Strategic leader willing to promote innovative ideas and diverse modes of course delivery as the university grows in numbers of students and programs;
  • Visionary leader who can further the university’s goals and objectives, identify emerging academic issues and recommend appropriate program responses;
  • Christian leader who can apply their personal commitment to Christ to further the Christian mission of the school, college and the university.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:

  • Must be an active and committed Christian who will support the University’s mission and be an active participant in a local church.
  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A proven record of effective leadership, organizational and managerial skills, and the ability to build critical, collaborative partnerships across the University.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates with previous administrative.
  • Evidence of project management experience in a broad range of related activities.
  • Strong experience with Artificial Intelligence and its application across large organizations.
  • Must agree to the University’s Employee Statement of Understanding.

The University of Mary Hardin–Baylor, a Christ-centered co-educational institution of higher learning affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, was chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas. The historic campus spans more than 300 acres and comprises the living and learning environment for over 3,200 students representing 41 states and 35 foreign countries.

UMHB offers more than 51 undergraduate majors and 14 graduate degree programs.

Belton and Central Texas

UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of over 22,000 in the heart of central Texas.  Nearby cities are Temple (5 miles), Waco (45 miles), Austin (65 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles).  Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.

Belton boasts a downtown historic district, Victorian era homes, and over 160 historical markers in the city and surrounding areas. For recreation, Belton’s bodies of water include Belton Lake, a fisher’s and boater’s haven, and Stillhouse Hollow Lake, which is rated one of the top lakes in Texas for water quality. The climate is mild to hot, with winter low temperatures averaging in the 40’s and summertime highs in the 90’s.
