Job Description Summary

All resources, and logistics required to perform services and maintenance activities on customers' site/property. These activities contribute to, maintain, repair and refurbish sold or existing products. Includes all types of maintenance service (preventive and remedial), manage maintenance facilities and field services engineering. Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.
The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the review, technical assessment, and acceptance of lift plan packages, technical drawings, and crane/operator certifications for field execution teams.
  • Use technical documents and engineering drawings to establish lift weights, lift heights, wind sail, and coefficient of drag by turbine model and MCE component.
  • Manage the crane vendor base, including contract negotiations, pricing strategy, mobilization planning, near-miss follow-up, corrective actions, and supplier performance accountability.
  • Build and strengthen crane supplier relationships and regional capacity to meet business demand and execution requirements.
  • Integrate and develop crane sourcing processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional areas of expertise, support long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.
  • Source cranes and associated rental equipment to support wind turbine major component exchanges across the region.
  • Develop and communicate clear, complete, and commercially sound lift mission scopes of work within RFQs.
  • Lead competitive bidding strategies for fixed-price crane work, including bid package development, scope clarification, bidder engagement, and commercial alignment.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals using structured bid comparison models that assess total cost, equipment suitability, schedule support, safety performance, technical capability, service levels, and contractual compliance.
  • Lead the vendor selection process for crane services and rental equipment, including supplier qualification, bid analysis, commercial evaluation, technical review, and award recommendation.
  • Validate scope completeness, pricing assumptions, and commercial boundaries within fixed-price bids to reduce execution risk, minimize change orders, and improve cost predictability.
  • Negotiate annual and mission-specific crane rates, fixed-price agreements, and associated commercial terms, including mobilization/demobilization, standby, weather delays, and change management provisions.
  • Provide crane cost estimates for use in quote generation, FSA planning, and transactional commercial models.
  • Work with functional leaders to coordinate crane logistics between sites and suppliers to optimize crane allocation, timing, and availability.
  • Support the crane team in developing industry-leading crane strategies that improve market coverage, reduce lead times, and lower total cost.
  • Support the GEV Crane Manager in onboarding new crane suppliers through the GEV MSA process, including negotiation of commercial terms and conditions.
  • Conduct supplier prequalification and due diligence reviews, including assessment of financial stability, operational capability, safety record, insurance compliance, and historical performance.
  • Establish and continually update regional crane pricing estimates by work scope for use in planning, budgeting, and commercial modeling.
  • Support the GEV Crane Manager in establishing and executing crane vendor and job site audit programs to ensure compliance with safe EHS practices, regulatory requirements, and company compliance programs.
  • Support the Onshore team in defining and establishing crane strategies, pricing levels, and vendor capability/capacity across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
  • Successfully facilitate resolution of field technical issues related to lifting and rigging in partnership with the GEV Crane Manager.
  • Develop and maintain administrative procedures and documentation standards to ensure auditability, traceability, and governance of crane sourcing processes and sourcing decisions.
  • Exercise independent judgment and decision-making over day-to-day crane operations and sourcing activities.
  • Identify and drive resolution of crane data integrity issues to support accurate planning, reporting, and commercial execution.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service through responsiveness, clear communication, and strong operational support.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while documenting status through established process management tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, or a high school diploma / GED with at least 4 years of experience in a related discipline.
  • Experience in crane operations, technical lift planning, sourcing, logistics, field services, or a related discipline, with proficiency in developing lift plans, interpreting crane manuals and load charts, and understanding the effects of wind on crane operations.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including experience evaluating supplier pricing and cost structures.
  • Ability to manage dynamic schedules, changing priorities, and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, problem-solving skills, with oral, written communication skills, including interpersonal, influencing, and leadership skills.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience leading competitive bidding events and evaluating fixed-price proposals for heavy-lift, crane, or field service operations.
  • Strong understanding of vendor qualification, commercial risk assessment, and supplier selection methodology.
  • Cost reduction and commercial negotiation experience.
  • Experience validating scope and commercial assumptions to improve execution certainty and reduce claims or change orders.
  • Familiarity with supplier governance, auditability requirements, and sourcing process discipline.
  • Six Sigma training is preferred (GE Employees Only).

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $91,400.00 and $152,200.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
