Description

The City of Appleton is currently accepting applications for a vacancy in Public Works. This position is responsible for routine custodial, cleaning, inspection, and general facility maintenance duties at City-owned parking ramps and associated parking facilities. Work involves removing litter and other debris from parking facilities, cleaning parking decks, drive lanes, ramps, sidewalks, and lobbies, and courteously assisting parking guests when encountered. This role works under the moderate supervision of the Parking Utility Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Removes litter, paper, glass, leaves, or other debris in the parking facilities.
- Sweeps, blows, mops, scrubs, and otherwise cleans parking decks, drive lanes, ramps, sidewalks, and other facility surfaces.
- Cleans and maintains parking facility lobbies, stairwells, elevators, and elevator lobbies, including floors, stairs, landings, walls, handrails, doors, windows, fixtures, signage, and other surfaces.
- Cleans spills and other routine messes and takes appropriate action to address or report hazardous or biohazardous incidents.
- Reports facility deficiencies, equipment problems, vandalism, hazardous conditions, and maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
- Provides courteous and appropriate assistance to parking guests when encountered.
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
- Maintains assigned cleaning supplies and equipment in an orderly and sanitary condition and reports supply or equipment needs.
- Assists in collecting coins from the parking meters.
Requirements of Work
A limited amount of custodial experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
• Knowledge of basic custodial methods and procedures.
• Ability to understand and follow simple, oral and written instructions.
• Ability to withstand a variety of temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public, and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds.
• Ability to climb, bend, reach and turn.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
