Within the Legal & Compliance Platforms team, we are seeking a Compliance Operations Engineer / Application Specialist who is ready to take ownership of advanced solutions in the fields of application support, data analytics and AI.
What would your role be?
In this role, you will be responsible for critical Compliance and complex AML platforms, sanctions and adverse media screening as well as related investigation workflows. You will work closely with colleagues from Legal & Compliance, Operations and other IT colleagues to support, maintain and further develop reliable, scalable and compliant technology solutions.
- Implement and operate scalable software solutions using modern engineering best practices.
- Own the technical lifecycle of screening platforms including sanctions, PEP, adverse media and transaction screening solutions.
- Integrate external screening providers and internal banking applications through APIs and event-driven architectures.
- Partner with Compliance SMEs to translate regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Manage application upgrades, vendor releases and technical roadmaps.
- Identify and implement AI-driven solutions supporting business and engineering objectives.
- Drive automation and operational excellence across screening and investigation processes.
- Ensure auditability, traceability and regulatory compliance of implemented solutions.
- Enable end-to-end delivery of complex technology initiatives.
- Take ownership for project implementation including timelines, budgets, risks, and dependencies.
- Support stakeholders through actionable data analysis and intuitive data visualizations.
This role offers a high degree of ownership and autonomy. You will play a key role in operating the architecture, technology choices and strategic direction of Vontobel's Compliance and Screening platforms.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably within financial services or a regulated environment.
- Proven experience as a technical operations engineer/application specialist supporting Compliance, AML, KYC or screening solutions.
- A good understanding of sanctions screening, PEP screening, adverse media screening and AML processes.
- Hands-on experience with API development and system implementation.
- Solid knowledge of Python, GitHub, Kubernetes/OpenShift, Helm, Oracle Database, PostgreSQL, SQL / PL-SQL. Knowledge of Java, Spring and Neo4j Graph Database is a plus.
- Experience in software implementation and technical project management.
- Experience with messaging and integration technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
- Fluency in English and German.
- Affinity for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a willingness to embrace AI-enabled tools and ways of working.

Location Requirement
This role is based in Zurich but will move to Baar in 2030, ensuring close alignment with key stakeholders in the business.
