FIVE x 5 (Fx5) provides two SaaS solutions, DISTILL x 5 and Whiskey Systems, designed to support United States distillery operations compliance requirements and we serve partners in 20 countries. As a Software Developer at Fx5, you will be a key contributor to the evolution and delivery of our SaaS platforms. You’ll work within a collaborative Agile development team to build scalable, maintainable, and secure software that supports craft distilleries across the globe. This role is ideal for a developer who is ready to own technical workstreams, support architecture decisions, and continuously improve product outcomes.
In more detail you will:
Full-Stack Development (50%)
- Build and maintain scalable, maintainable SaaS applications using PHP (Lumen/Laravel), JavaScript (Vue/React), and AWS.
- Write clean, reliable, and reusable code aligned with team standards and business/product requirements.
- Design and implement new features, refactor legacy code, and contribute to system performance enhancements.
- Develop and maintain the application’s data layer: model relational schemas in MySQL, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability.
- Write automated testing (unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing), etc. consistent with department protocols as part of the development process.
- Implement automated tests, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment workflows that reflect DevOps principles and ensure release reliability.
Agile collaboration & team participation (20%)
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and demos.
- Collaborate with Product Owners to refine user stories, clarify functional specifications, and estimate development effort.
- Contribute to code reviews, team design discussions, and knowledge sharing practices that elevate team delivery quality.
- Assist in documenting code, readmes, and feature behavior to support team onboarding and maintenance readiness.
Architecture & devOps Engagement (15%)
- Partner with senior developers and technical leadership to evolve system architecture, including service decomposition and transition to microservices.
- Support DevOps-oriented workflows including CI/CD pipeline optimization, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code using tools like Docker and GitHub Actions.
- Assist in performance tuning, scalability evaluations, and resiliency improvements under guidance from technical leadership.
Continuous improvement & Product alignment (15%)
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, serving as an escalation point for complex production scenarios.
- Collaborate with QA, Product, and Customer Support teams to ensure smooth releases and platform stability.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, tooling, and documentation.
- Participate in customer feedback sessions and provide technical input when needed to align product functionality with user’s needs.

5+ years of full-stack development experience in SaaS or web-based environments including:
- Version control with modern version control workflows in a team environment
- Engaged with the software development lifecycle and agile development methodologies.
- Code quality and functionality process (e.g. performing code reviews and QA process in a team environment)
- Writing automated testing (unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing, etc.)
Preferred Experience:
A minimum of 3+ years’ experience in any of the below frameworks.
- Docker. in any of these
- Laravel
- Vue
- AWS
- Designing and deploying high-traffic internal and external API’s.
- Database performance optimization and schema evolution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Full-stack fluency in PHP and JavaScript, with working proficiency in modern frameworks and libraries such as Lumen, Laravel, Vue.js, and React.
- Foundational database knowledge, including designing, querying, and integrating with MySQL in application contexts.
- Cloud-aware development, with practical understanding of AWS tools (e.g., EC2, RDS, S3) and Unix-based development environments.
- Source control proficiency using Git and collaborative version control workflows.
- Agile mindset and practice, including participation in ceremonies and understanding of sprint cycles, team velocity, and backlog health.
- Familiarity with SaaS architecture patterns, including monolith and microservices, serverless components, and distributed systems.
- Comfort with development operations tooling, such as CI/CD pipelines and platforms like Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical ideas across diverse audiences.
- Problem-solving orientation, using structured debugging, root cause analysis, and iterative thinking to improve software quality.
- Curiosity and adaptability, demonstrating a growth mindset, openness to new tools and practices, and a drive to learn.
- Customer-aware development, approaching tasks with a focus on usability, business value, and long-term maintainability.
- Awareness of compliance-sensitive development, especially in regulated or highly audited domains
- Strong technical appetite and desire to learn everything there is to know about Fx5’s products, customers and operations.
- An interest in or passion for regulated beverage and/or craft spirits or adjacent industries.

The range listed is just one component of FIVE x 5 total compensation package for regular full-time employees. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, life insurance options, vacation, sick/floater days, CSI or Fx5 Discretionary Bonus, 11 holidays, & 401k.
Base Compensation Range: $100,587.00 - $150,880.00
CSI Discretionary Bonus Factor: .15
