Description
Are you a highly skilled, hands-on network professional who thrives in high-pressure environments and enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges? Join our Networks team as a Network Engineer – Tier 3 in Plattekloof and play a critical role in maintaining, optimising, and supporting our core network infrastructure across hardware and software layers.
The key purpose of this role is to ensure stable, secure, and high-performing network operations through advanced troubleshooting, escalation support, and proactive network optimisation.
What you’ll do:
- Escalate complex issues to Network Engineers Tier 4 where required
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network systems issues, escalating to relevant departments when necessary
- Maintain and update all network-related documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Support Tier 4 Engineers during major incidents, outages, and emergency scenarios
- Implement approved network change plans in line with operational standards and RFCs
- Handle technical escalations from Helpdesk Agents (Tier 2) and provide expert-level support
- Manage incident resolution processes, including communication with relevant stakeholders
- Configure and programme network equipment according to defined standards and RFCs

Maintain and support core network technologies including:
- OSPF routing (Intermediate +)
- MikroTik routers (Intermediate +)
- Layer 2 switching (Intermediate +)
- General networking (Intermediate +)
- Perform router setup, installation, configuration, and ongoing management
- Manage IP planning, allocation, and configuration across network environments
- Design, implement, and maintain firewall configurations and policies
- Maintain core functionality of VAS products and systems within the network environment
- Compile and deliver monthly and weekly reports on network backhaul capacity and performance
- Provide direct support for VIP and off-net clients, ensuring high service quality standards
- Assist RF and access network teams with site planning, design, and development
- Participate in ad hoc operational duties as required by the business
- Operate within standard working hours, with potential after-hours support during outages or operational requirements
What you’ll need:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a network engineering environment
- Strong working knowledge of BGP, OSPF, MPLS, routing, switching, and MikroTik hardware
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routers, IP routing, and switching technologies
- Ability to work independently in high-pressure and time-sensitive environments
- Strong customer service orientation with professional communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and fault-finding abilities
- Strong organisational, administrative, and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team and across technical departments
- Juniper network experience is advantageous
- Minimum MTCNA certification
- MTCRE certification recommended
- CompTIA N+ is advantageous
- CompTIA A+ is advantageous
- Additional networking diplomas or certifications are beneficial
