Description

The Opportunity

At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Power Engineering Solutions to join our Infrastructure Delivery team in Perth.

Reporting to the General Manager, Infrastructure Engineering, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering APA’s growing power portfolio. Leading a talented, high performing team, you’ll provide strategic and technical leadership across the development and delivery of reliable, efficient and sustainable power solutions, from early concept development through to commissioning support.

You’ll lead APA’s power engineering capability, with accountability for engineering strategy, design development and execution. This is an opportunity to bring together your technical expertise and leadership experience to help shape how we deliver power solutions and support APA’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow APA’s Power Engineering Solutions capability, setting the strategic direction for technical excellence and innovation while building a high performing, customer focused and commercially minded engineering team with the capability to support APA’s future growth.
  • Own engineering governance, assurance and technical standards across the Power Engineering Solutions portfolio, ensuring projects meet regulatory requirements, industry standards and APA’s engineering management framework.
  • Provide senior technical leadership across project development and delivery, including engineering design, technical risk and the negotiation of key design, engineering, equipment and construction contracts to achieve strong technical and commercial outcomes.
  • Lead grid connection strategy and execution across generation and load projects, from connection applications and Generator Performance Standard negotiations with AEMO, NSPs and jurisdictional authorities through to R1 and R2 milestones.
  • Work closely across development, project delivery, pipelines, approvals, procurement and operations while representing APA with customers, industry partners and forums, bringing insight on emerging technologies and market developments to help shape future opportunities.

Your background

  • You will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related engineering discipline, supported by significant experience across power generation, power systems, grid connections or the broader energy sector.
  • You will bring a strong understanding of power project development and delivery, including grid connection processes and Generator Performance Standards, ideally gained through exposure to AEMO, NSPs, SWIS, NWIS or similar electricity networks.
  • You will have demonstrated experience leading and developing multidisciplinary engineering teams, building organisational capability, mentoring technical leaders and creating a high-performance culture.
  • You will bring strong technical expertise in engineering design, technical assessments, governance and documentation, with the ability to operate confidently within relevant regulatory, engineering and technical standards.
  • You will have the ability to build trusted relationships and influence across a broad stakeholder group, working collaboratively with customers, consultants, vendors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, commercially focused outcomes.

About the Team

The Infrastructure Engineering team is part of APA's Infrastructure Delivery division and supports the development and delivery of growth projects across Australia.

With a strong pipeline of on-grid and off-grid power projects, we are looking for an engineering leader who thrives in collaborative environments, enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams and is passionate about delivering positive outcomes for customers, communities and the energy sector.

Our team brings together specialists in power systems, grid connections, generation technologies and hybrid systems. You'll join a supportive and highly capable group of professionals committed to delivering reliable, efficient and sustainable energy solutions. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Australia's energy transition and help shape the future of power generation through wind, solar, battery energy storage and thermal technologies.
