Walker Consultants is excited to offer a Structural Engineering Internship in our Washington, DC office. In this role, you'll support talented engineers working on structural design, restoration, forensic investigations, and building envelope projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
This internship provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects while developing technical, analytical, and professional skills. You'll work alongside experienced engineers on projects ranging from parking structures and commercial buildings to historic facilities and complex restoration efforts.
What You'll Do
- Learn how engineering, architecture, and construction come together to deliver successful projects.
- Assist with structural analysis, calculations, and design tasks for new and existing structures.
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and condition assessments of buildings and parking facilities.
- Support the preparation of engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Collect project-related data including field measurements, codes, standards, and other technical information.
- Observe construction activities and assist with construction administration and documentation.
- Assist in reviewing shop drawings, submittals, and contractor requests for information.
- Gain exposure to restoration, forensic engineering, and building envelope consulting projects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while contributing to projects that serve communities throughout the region.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
Education Requirements
- Junior or Senior standing pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or currently enrolled in a Master's program.
Preferred Skills
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Interest in structural restoration, forensic investigations, and existing-building evaluation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or structural engineering software is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
