Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG), in partnership with Sutter Health, is seeking a compassionate and experienced Surgical Physician Assistant to join our growing Women’s Health team in San Francisco.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with physicians across Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS), general OB/GYN, and Urogynecology, supporting both surgical and clinical care for patients across the women’s health continuum. The incoming PA will play an important role in perioperative care, surgical assisting, postoperative management, patient education, and multidisciplinary care coordination.

Position Details / Clinical Scope

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Provide first-assist support in the operating room for gynecologic, minimally invasive, robotic, laparoscopic, and urogynecologic procedures
  • Support preoperative evaluation, surgical planning, patient counseling, and informed consent education
  • Manage postoperative follow-up visits, wound checks, recovery guidance, and patient questions
  • Evaluate and manage common gynecologic and urogynecologic concerns in collaboration with supervising physicians
  • Assist with care coordination for patients undergoing surgical treatment for fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and other women’s health conditions
  • Support outpatient procedures and clinic-based care as appropriate to training, experience, and scope
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other clinical team members
  • Provide patient education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical expectations, recovery, medications, and follow-up care
  • Help improve clinical workflows, surgical access, documentation, patient communication, and continuity of care
  • Practice at the top of license while maintaining a collaborative, patient-centered approach

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current California Physician Assistant license, or eligibility to obtain California licensure
  • NCCPA certification required
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience required
  • At least one year of women’s health, OB/GYN, surgical, or related specialty experience strongly preferred
  • Prior operating room, first-assist, robotic, laparoscopic, or gynecologic surgery experience preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, organization, and patient education skills
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered, equitable care
  • Interest in women’s health, surgical care, preventive care, and team-based practice
