South Mountain Creamery is a dairy farm family: we bottle our own milk and make our own butter and ice cream. We brought the milkman back in 2001 and have been making home deliveries to the DMV area for 25 years and counting! Over the years, we have grown to be the largest and most efficient home delivery business in the area. Position Summary

The Separator plays a key role in the dairy production process by operating and maintaining the cream separator and related equipment used to separate milk and cream. This position ensures the safe, efficient, and sanitary handling of dairy products in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the cream separator and other dairy processing equipment (e.g., pasteurizers, homogenizers, tanks).
• Monitor temperature, flow rates, and product quality during the separation process.
• Perform equipment setup, calibration, and daily start-up/shutdown procedures.
• Maintain accurate production logs and batch records.
• Conduct cleaning and sanitization (CIP/SIP) of equipment and work areas according to food safety standards.
• Troubleshoot and report mechanical or quality issues to maintenance or supervision.
• Assist with loading, unloading, and transferring raw milk and cream.
• Follow all plant safety and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) guidelines.
• Support other creamery operations as needed, including pasteurization and bottling.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a dairy, food, or beverage manufacturing environment preferred.
• Knowledge of dairy processing equipment and food safety standards a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to read and record data accurately.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods in a cold, wet environment.
• Flexibility to work early mornings and holidays as production requires.
