JOB SUMMARY

The Part –Time Business Adviser provides confidential business advising and technical assistance to current and aspiring small business owners. This position supports business development through one-on-one advising, training, resource referrals, and accurate program documentation while ensuring compliance with Oregon SBDC Network, SBA, and Business Oregon requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide confidential one-on-one business advising to business owners and potential owners as stipulated in the agreements with the Oregon SBDC Network, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and Business Oregon. Advising topics include, but are not limited to, business formation, business plan development, pre-venture feasibility, financial management and bookkeeping, marketing, human resource management, sources of capital, product commercialization, intellectual property protection, AI adoption for small businesses, succession planning, business resilience and recovery, and strategic planning.
    • Enter a counseling record into the Oregon SBDC Network’s Management Information System (Center IC) within five business days of each meeting with a client which tracks time spent, subjects discussed, recommendations/referrals made, and counselor and client next steps.
    • Capture and record economic impacts and success stories as supported by the work conducted with clients.
    • Ensure the integrity of client data entered into Center IC.
    • Participate in the Oregon SBDC Network’s Professional Development and other training and networking opportunities as requested.
    • Refer clients to appropriate small business resources and training as appropriate.
    • Deliver business training as assigned.
    • Attend SBDC staff meetings.
    • Keep all scheduled client appointments.
    • Adhere to the Oregon SBDC Network Code of Ethics.
    • Collaborates effectively with a variety of students, staff and public from diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds.
    • Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent combination of business ownership and education.
  • Preferred:
    • Business ownership experience or appropriate subject matter expertise.

    • Computer and technology proficiency including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and database. Social media proficiency and willingness to adapt to new technologies.
    • Familiarity with data privacy, cybersercurity, and ethical considerations related to AI use. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 


  • Primarily office-based with occasional field visits or off-site events.
  • Frequent interaction with business owners, contract staff, and industry partners.
  • May require evening or weekend hours during peak activity periods.
  • May occasionally lift or carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Regular movement between seated, standing, and walking positions.
  • Standard office and occasional field environment.
