The Opportunity

Harbinger Network is partnering with a highly respected and growing insurance brokerage based in Hamilton, Ontario, to bring on an experienced Sr. Accounting Lead.

In this on-site role, you will take complete ownership of the company's accounting function. Working alongside a dedicated team of professionals, you will oversee everything from day-to-day transactions and financial controls to complex reporting and budgeting. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven finance professional to lead a department, implement continuous improvements, and act as a strategic advisor to the executive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Oversight & Team Leadership: Lead the accounting department, actively mentor staff and monitoring the overall financial health of the brokerage.

• Full-Cycle Accounting & Payroll: Manage all day-to-day transactions, ensuring timely processing of AP/AR, and payroll

• Reporting & Budgeting: Prepare and issue complete interim financial statements, operating metrics, and variance reports on a monthly basis. Assist in preparing annual operating budgets and handle all government returns and remittances.

• Internal Controls: Develop, enforce, and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and strict financial controls to ensure absolute data integrity.

• Strategic Communication: Translate complex financial metrics into clear, actionable insights for the leadership team and champion special projects to improve department efficiency.

What You Bring

• Education: A completed Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Accounting

• Designation: Must be actively enrolled in the CPA program or hold a completed CPA designation.

• Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the insurance, or financial services industry.

• Technical Skills: Proven experience processing AP, AR, payroll, monthly account reconciliation, and financial reporting. Familiarity with Broker Management Systems (such as EPIC) is an asset.

• Soft Skills: Outstanding English communication, time management, and prioritization abilities, coupled with a proven capacity to excel in a fast-paced environment.
