The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is recruiting for team members to join the a multi-year system modernization initiative for LACOE and over 125 agencies, including school districts, community colleges, charter schools, and joint powers authorities.
The Process Engineer - Payroll (ERP) participates as a payroll functional expert in an integrated process team to collect and interpret information from the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and Local Education Agency system users for business process analyses, documentation of functional specifications, system configuration, user system testing, business process re-engineering, and system user training and support.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following
Knowledge:
- Principles, practices, regulations, and reporting requirements of California public education payroll functions
- Principles and practices of one or more of the following payroll-related business processes: payroll processing, pre-tax and post-tax deductions, benefits, human resources, time and labor, retirement reporting (e.g., CalPERS, CalSTRS), and garnishments
- Methodology of business process modeling and business process improvement
- Principles and practices of enterprise business system functionality, ERP implementation, analysis, and design
- Computer-based data management, systems analysis, and project management
- Analyzing & Interpreting Data – Drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative and/or qualitative data
- Critical Thinking – Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims
- Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job
- Attention to Detail – Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work products

Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, management information systems (MIS), or other fields closely related to the job requirements of the classification from an institution of higher recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Experience: Four years of experience in full-cycle payroll processing and payroll systems support or in payroll systems implementation.
Equivalency Provision: Year(s) of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement may substitute for education on a year-to-year basis for up to two years. Current professional certification in one of the following may substitute for two years of required education: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Professional in Human Resources (PHR) Certification, Human Resource Information Professional (HRIP) Certification, Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRMCP) or equivalent.
Additional Requirements: Experience as a user of ERP payroll systems or implementing ERP systems in a California public sector (e.g., K-12 school district, community college, office of education) payroll unit is preferred. A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certificate is preferred. A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required.
Hybrid remote schedules may be available.
