Overview

For our manufacturing site in Luxembourg, Luxembourg we are looking for a Director, Manufacturing Site Operations

 

As the Manufacturing Site Operations Director for our Luxembourg facility, you will be responsible for leading all manufacturing operations while ensuring strong performance in safety, process safety, environmental stewardship, quality, reliability, productivity, cost, and customer service. This role requires a strategic mindset combined with hands-on operational leadership to drive continuous improvement, operational discipline, and a strong site culture.

The Site Director will report to the Senior Director, Manufacturing Multi-Site Operations and will lead the site organization across production, maintenance, engineering, quality, technology, and support functions. The role also serves as the senior site representative with internal and external stakeholders.

In addition, this role will serve as the Managing Director of the Luxembourg legal entity, with accountability for representing the entity locally and ensuring appropriate governance, compliance, and decision-making in alignment with Celanese standards and applicable legal obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of the Luxembourg manufacturing site, ensuring safe, reliable, efficient, and sustainable operations
  • Serve as Managing Director of the Luxembourg legal entity, providing leadership, governance, and regulatory oversight
  • Champion a culture of safety, process safety, environmental stewardship, and operational discipline
  • Drive achievement of site objectives in safety, quality, reliability, service, productivity, and cost performance
  • Translate business strategies into actionable site plans and measurable results
  • Lead daily manufacturing operations to meet customer commitments and business objectives
  • Ensure strong manufacturing execution, schedule adherence, and operational excellence across all production areas
  • Develop and sustain maintenance and reliability programs that maximize asset performance and availability
  • Lead capital investment planning and project execution to support growth, reliability, and compliance objectives
  • Ensure products consistently meet customer requirements, quality standards, and regulatory expectations
  • Build, coach, and develop a high-performing leadership team and organization
  • Drive employee engagement, talent development, succession planning, and organizational capability
  • Advance the Celanese Manufacturing Operational Model and a culture of continuous improvement
  • Lead productivity, reliability, digital manufacturing, and operational excellence initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, environmental, safety, and quality requirements
  • Serve as the primary site representative with employees, customers, government authorities, regulators, and community stakeholders
  • Partner with commercial, supply chain, engineering, stewardship, finance, HR, and technology teams to deliver business results
  • Support the development and execution of site strategy aligned with broader business objectives
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous learning throughout the organization
  • Represent and protect the interests of the Luxembourg legal entity while ensuring alignment with Celanese values, policies, and global standards

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or comparable), or equivalent degree in a technical field. Minimum of bachelor’s degree
  • Experience: Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations within the chemical, specialty materials, or related industries, with at least 10 years in senior leadership roles
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of chemical manufacturing processes, equipment, and technologies relevant to engineering materials production (ideal)
  • Leadership: Proven track record of successfully leading manufacturing teams, transforming culture, driving change initiatives, and developing talent
  • Operational Excellence: Demonstrated experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to improve operational performance
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Italian manufacturing regulations, EU chemical directives, and international standards relevant to chemical manufacturing
  • Financial Acumen: Strong business and financial understanding, with experience in budget management and cost optimization
  • Language Skills: Fluency in German and English is required; additional European languages are advantageous
  • Digital Literacy: Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP), manufacturing execution systems (MES), and digital transformation initiatives
  • Change Management: Proven ability to lead organizational changes and implement new processes or technologies successfully
