Description
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, movement, and shipment of materials throughout the facility. This position plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining inventory accuracy, operating material handling equipment safely, and ensuring customer orders are prepared and shipped on time.
This is a hands-on position requiring strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and extensive forklift operating experience in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, be comfortable working with manufacturing equipment and materials, and be willing to cross-train and assist with production operations as business needs require.
Requirements
Essential Functions
- Receive incoming materials and verify quantities against purchase orders and packing slips.
- Unload and load trucks safely using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Move raw materials, finished goods, and work-in-process throughout the facility.
- Pick, stage, package, and prepare customer orders for shipment.
- Perform shipping transactions using ERP and shipping software.
- Maintain accurate inventory through cycle counts and inventory transactions.
- Inspect incoming shipments for damage or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
- Maintain warehouse organization and material locations.
- Follow FIFO inventory practices where applicable.
- Operate forklifts safely while following all company safety policies.
- Assist production personnel with material requests.
- Cross-train in production processes and provide support on the manufacturing floor as needed.
- Operate production equipment safely after receiving appropriate training.
- Assist with assembly, packaging, material preparation, or other production activities as assigned.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and production work environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in shipping, receiving, and manufacturing operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of forklift operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn manufacturing equipment and production processes.
- Ability to accurately receive, store, move, and ship materials while maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use ERP, inventory, and shipping software.
- Ability to read and understand shipping documents, packing slips, work orders, and inventory records.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to cross-train and support production operations as business needs require.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, and frequent forklift operation.
- Commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Previous shipping and receiving experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with inventory control, cycle counting, and FIFO inventory practices.
- Experience using ERP systems and shipping software.
- Experience supporting production or manufacturing operations.
- Forklift certification (or the ability to obtain certification if required by company policy).
