The role:
As a SE & Prototype Samples Manager, you will help drive our goals by:
- Safety - embeds a high standard safety culture throughout the plant. Striving for the continuous improvement of safety standards and ensuring all employees are engaged and responsible for their own and each other’s safety
- Quality - ensures all functional areas within the plant achieve or exceed quality standards. Ensures non-conformance is investigated and lessons learnt embedded to drive quality improvements
- Delivery - responsible for providing quality products to our customers on time through the efficient and safe use of resources
- Cost - establishes budgets and ensure delivery at or below cost targets.
- People- Ensures effective & efficient resource allocation to achieve the samples plan. Ensures all teams have the right skills mix and that development/ training plans are in place for future requirements. Provides on-going coaching to the manufacturing teams. Develops a pipeline for, and is an exporter of talent to the business
- Drives a culture of customer focus and personal accountability across the team by role-modelling behaviors, reinforcing the positive behaviors within the team and ensuring robust performance management in place for team members.
- Disciplined execution of manufacturing processes related to man (standard work), material (planning, flow, inventory), machine (TPM and O.E.E)
- Prototype Samples group function design, current state improvements in performance, future state design and capacity/investment planning, in conjunction with the commercial, technology and engineering teams.
- Ensuring that the customer is the key stakeholder driving all improvement activities. Communicating directly with customers on prototype samples performance status where appropriate.
- Proactive collaboration, communication and networking with all key stakeholders within technology, commercial, operations, quality and finance.
- Acts as role model and set high expectations for JM Values, Ethics and compliance.
- Ensures a positive external image is maintained of the plant in the community
- Ensures the site has a business impact analysis and a corresponding business continuity plan which addresses all site-based points of potential failure, be that mechanical, natural disaster, supply chain disruption etc.
- To take on any other duties which are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
- Accountable for end-to-end governance of Prototype Samples operations, ensuring consistency, compliance, traceability, and efficient execution of all sample-related activities.
- Owns and maintains the PSB RASIC model, ensuring clear accountability and interfaces between Product Development, Application Engineering, Sustaining Engineering, Process Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations.
- Ensures all sample manufacturing, importing, exporting, and compliance activities are reviewed, coordinated, and executed through the PSB organization.
- Acts as the primary escalation point for sample movement, scale-up readiness, industrialization issues, and transition-to-production decisions.
Scale-Up & Technology Transfer
- Lead product scale-up and industrialisation with Sustaining Engineering.
- Ensure process readiness, scalability, manufacturability, and compliance.
- Identify and mitigate technical and operational risks.
- Capture and transfer technical knowledge and documentation.
- Support technology transfer and commissioning of new products.
Governance & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Lead and coordinate PSB and Sustaining Engineering activities.
- Drive collaboration across R&D, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, and Commercial teams.
- Oversee prototype manufacturing and production transition decisions.
- Establish governance for prioritisation, resource allocation, and escalation.
Operational Transition & Capacity Management
- Manage operational transition and aftermarket support.
- Develop sample manufacturing and capacity strategies.
- Define future prototype manufacturing operating models.
- Support capacity planning, investment, and facility development.
Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:
Essential
- Degree in Engineering, Technical, or Business discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Significant experience in technical/manufacturing environments with a proven track record of leading transformation initiatives.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams in complex, fast-paced environments with a strong focus on people development.
- Strong customer and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) management within manufacturing.
- Demonstrated capability in building a strong culture of personal accountability.
- A strong working knowledge of manufacturing concepts and principles
Desirable
- Experience implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Strong financial acumen with P&L and cost management experience.
