Are you a strong swimmer? Do you have great skill and technique with a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills? Do you enjoy being responsible and be able to provide supervision and safety of all in a pool environment with your spare time? If so, the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, Boroughs Family Branch is looking for you to join our amazing Aquatics Department!
**Lifeguard Certification required; however, we offer the course for a minimal fee as a part of being hired. In order to be hired, candidate must successfully complete the lifeguarding course.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains active surveillance of the pool area and ensures a safe environment for all members and staff.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, including delivering life saving care.
- Remains calm and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving and reports to the right personnel when appropriate
- Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
- Attends staff trainings/meetings and maintain active certifications related to the position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must hold active Lifeguard Certification and able to present said certification before being hired
- Must be at least 16 years old
- Must have the following certifications: basic Life Support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid and emergency oxygen administration at hiring or within 30 days of hire date
