Key Responsibilities
People & Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the IFRS 17 valuation team to build strong technical capability and reduce reliance on key individuals.
- Provide guidance on key MFRS 17 technical areas, including contract grouping, CSM mechanics, risk adjustment methodology, and reporting requirements.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture across actuarial, finance, IT, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned to support smooth implementation and sustainable BAU processes.
- Communicate MFRS 17 concepts, impacts, and results clearly to align understanding and expectations across teams.
Business & Delivery
- Oversee the end-to-end delivery of MFRS 17 valuation and reporting, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory and internal governance requirements.
- Ensure robustness of valuation methodologies, assumptions, models, and disclosures in line with MFRS 17 standards.
- Maintain and strengthen IFRS 17 frameworks, processes, and controls, with a strong focus on stable and efficient BAU reporting.
- Manage BAU reporting cycles while addressing post-implementation gaps, enhancements, and ongoing process improvements.
- Review and explain key financial movements, including drivers of CSM, BEL, RA, NBCSM, and OPAT.
- Develop and maintain analysis and bridging tools (e.g. NBCSM and OPAT bridges) to enhance transparency and business understanding.
- Work closely with Finance and other actuarial teams to ensure alignment between IFRS 17 reporting and broader financial reporting metrics.
- Ensure compliance with BNM ITSR requirements in relation to actuarial systems, data governance, and reporting infrastructure supporting MFRS 17 valuation.
- Drive improvements in valuation systems, data flows, automation, and reporting efficiency.
Stakeholder & Customer Focus
- Provide accurate, timely, and clear IFRS 17 outputs and analysis to support Finance, Actuarial, and Management decision-making.
- Engage effectively with Group Office, external consultants, auditors, and regulators on IFRS 17 matters.
- Communicate key valuation insights, issues, and impacts in a clear and structured manner to facilitate informed decisions.
- Support internal and external audit processes, regulatory submissions, and related queries with well-documented analysis and responses.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, IT, Risk, and Product teams to ensure smooth end-to-end reporting and issue resolution.
Development & Continuous Improvement
- Enhance and embed robust BAU processes, ensuring clarity of roles, documentation, and team understanding of end-to-end workflows.
- Identify and implement improvements in valuation processes, controls, and documentation.
- Strengthen internal analytics capability, including development of meaningful management insights and performance metrics.
- Build leadership presence and communication effectiveness to guide teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Promote a mindset of continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence within the team.
Requirement
- A degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, or another relevant quantitative discipline.
- Actuarial qualification, progress toward qualification, or comparable depth of relevant actuarial experience.
- Strong experience in life insurance and/or family takaful actuarial work, with significant exposure to IFRS 17 / MFRS 17 valuation and reporting.
- Good understanding of IFRS 17 valuation components, including CSM, BEL, RA, and financial result analysis (e.g. NBCSM, OPAT).
- Familiarity with the Malaysian regulatory environment and reporting expectations, as well as Group reporting frameworks.
- Experience in managing valuation processes, reporting cycles, and governance frameworks.
- Ability to translate technical results into clear, business-relevant insights for stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across actuarial, finance, IT, and senior management.
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing team members in a collaborative and inclusive way.
- Comfortable working with actuarial models, data systems, and reporting tools used in IFRS 17 environments.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver in a dynamic and evolving reporting environment.
