Financial Counselor (Business Office)

Overview

Must have experience with the Healthcare revenue cycle, patient access, financial counseling, insurance verification, admissions, registration, collections, or related customer service experience. Experience discussing financial responsibility with patients and families is highly preferred.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am - 4:30pm (Occasional flexibility may be needed based on patient and business office needs)

 

Pay Rate: $20 - $25/Hr. based on experience

Geisinger Behavioral Health Danville is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Financial Counselor to join our growing Business Office team. This role serves as a vital link between patients, families, insurance providers, and the facility by ensuring accurate insurance verification, billing support, and collection processes that help patients access the care they need.

 

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for auditing the admission packets and for the verification of benefits along with all patient demographic information in the patient accounting system.
• Financial counseling of patients and/or guarantors and collecting any out of pocket (deductibles, copays, coinsurance, exhausted days, etc). Provide information to the patient and/or guarantors regarding their benefits and financial obligations.
• Complete financial disclosure paperwork for patients that request assistance including verifying income and expenses.
• Complete adjustment forms for any charity or administrative adjustments for approval.
• Complete promissory notes for patients that request payment arrangements.
• Update daily the upfront collection log, charity log, and admin adjustment log. Review with BOD on a weekly basis.
• Gather and interpret data from system and understands appropriate course of action to take and initiates time-sensitive and strategic steps resulting in payment.
• Coordinate and collaborate with team members as needed to work through discrepencies in a timely fashion.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

• Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three or more years' experience in related field required.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of Commercial Insurance and Medicare/Medicaid required.
