Job Title: Junior Chemist
Department: Central Laboratory - Proximate Analysis
Location: ALS Testing Services India Pvt. Ltd.
Reports To: Manager

Job Purpose

To perform sample preparation, analysis, calculations, result verification, and documentation for proximate and nutritional parameters in food, feed, and related matrices, ensuring compliance with ALS quality systems, ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform sample receipt, preparation, homogenization, and analysis as per approved test methods and SOPs.
• Conduct testing for proximate parameters including Moisture, Ash, Protein, Fat, Crude Fibre, Dietary Fibre, Carbohydrates (by calculation), Energy, Salt, and related nutritional analyses.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as Moisture Analyzers, Ovens, Muffle Furnaces, Kjeldahl Systems, Dumas Protein Analyzers, Soxhlet/Fat Extraction Systems, Fiber Analyzers, Balances, and other laboratory instruments.
• Carry out routine calibration, performance verification, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
• Review analytical data, quality control results, and calculations to ensure compliance with method acceptance criteria.
• Maintain accurate records of sample preparation, test results, calculations, worksheets, and laboratory documentation.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality requirements, ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and ALS procedures.
• Meet assigned sample throughput and turnaround time (TAT) requirements.
• Participate in method validation, verification, proficiency testing, and internal quality control programs.
• Maintain laboratory housekeeping, chemical inventory, reference materials, and consumables.
• Follow all laboratory safety, health, environmental, and compliance requirements.

Education & Qualification

• B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Agriculture, or related scientific discipline.

Experience

• 0-1 years of experience in a NABL/ISO 17025 accredited testing laboratory.
• Freshers with relevant academic projects, internship experience, or laboratory exposure in food and nutritional analysis may also be considered.
