Parts and Inventory Control Specialist

The Parts and Inventory Control Specialist performs work related to managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of parts and materials from the District’s inventory; conducts inventory control to ensure materials are available for facilities and fleet maintenance projects, including multiple and remote locations; and performs related work as required.

• Oversees the day-to-day warehousing, stocking, and inventory functions of the District; operates warehouse facility; stocks and maintains supplies as ordered for operation; prepares requests for bids for parts and materials and reviews bids, as directed.
• Receives inventory shipments; examines supplies and materials received to verify accuracy according to shipping documents, purchase orders, and related documents; determines quality of shipment, damage, or other unsatisfactory conditions, and accepts or rejects shipments.
• Operates warehouse equipment such as a forklift; loads and stocks shelves and material pallets; operates trucks and vans as needed to distribute supplies to various maintenance centers; makes regular scheduled pickups or deliveries; performs minor maintenance on equipment. 
• Establishes inventory tracking systems; develops or determines space allocations for various materials or products; monitors stock and availability to ensure timely access to essential materials, parts, products, and equipment.
• Operates personal computer and related inventory software; inputs material specifications and products.
• Establishes parts and equipment stocking objectives and needs for the District; monitors stocking status and supplies and determines reorder points and needs.
• Ensures the work environment is safe for employees; ensures warehouse area is clean and orderly; manages waste or scrap materials from trash to landfill. 
• Assists with preparing department annual budget requests for approval by manager.
• Observes and complies with all District and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.

Education and Experience: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12^th) grade, supplemented by specialized training in inventory control methods and basic computer operations.

Experience:

• Four (4) years of experience performing parts and inventory control or related duties.

Licenses and Certifications: 

• Possession of, or successful acquisition within six (6) months of employment, a valid forklift certification, to be maintained throughout employment.
• Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) P2 Automotive Parts Specialist Certification.
