Overview

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under the supervision of the Branch Director, the Teen Director directs overall operation of a broad range of programs for teen members at Club One (such as Education, Social Recreation, STEAM, and Leadership and Service, and Physical Education) with the primary concern for the program of activities. The Teen Director supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Health & Wellness, and Good Character and Citizenship of our members. Plans, develops, implements, coordinates and supervises programs and program staff, and performs related administrative duties.  Markets and establishes community relations to support Club One. Safety is the number one priority of the Teen Director.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Is responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment, conducive to youth development. All storage areas are organized for quick retrieval of items. Repairs are reported to Branch Director and taken care of in timely manner. Responsible for maintenance for all Club One Teen Department equipment.
  • Will communicate with the local high school teachers and administration.
  • Plan and execute Teen Programs to actively engage members, parents, volunteers, and the community.
  • Plan and conduct monthly Teen Nights for members at an age appropriate level that are fun and engaging with safety measures in place.
  • Plan and oversee programs in 3 focus areas: Academic Success, Health & Wellness, and Character & Leadership. 
  • Provide leadership and guidance for professional development for other Teen program staff and volunteers in the Club to promote learning and teach best practices.
  • Facilitate and improve the Club’s Teen programs.
  • Provide leadership, development, and implementation of the curriculum relevant to the Teen age groups (13 - 18).
  • Ensure that topics taught in the Club’s programs meet state and national standards and follow current Teen trends.
  • Maintain and understand current trends of developments the occur during teen-adolescents.
  • Understand and stay up-to-date on current racial and ethical trends and topics that occur in the world and throughout High School. 
  • Collaborate with schools and community partners to support Teen programs and initiatives.
  • Collect quantitative data on pre, mid, and post program outcomes for members.
  • Use a variety of technical applications and online resources.
  • Administrative tasks include but are not limited to: creating purchase orders and purchasing needed supplies, budget development and maintaining budget, program income, grant management, and inputting data into the member tracking system.
  •  

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

  • May manage special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Club organization activities as requested. Will represent Club at events in the community.
  •  

  • Required to drive the Club van periodically; will be required to secure a Class B driver’s license within one year of date of hire.
  •  

  • Will be required to consult with parents, members, and volunteers verbally or in writing concerning Teen programs and goals.
  •  

  • Will be required to handle other tasks or projects, as assigned such as but not limited to: building maintenance, painting of building, van maintenance, serving food, set up of AV equipment, etc.
  •  

  • Is a California required mandated reporter. Supervises and ensures the safety of members throughout the Club.
  •  

     

    RELATIONSHIPS:

     

    Internal:   Due to the relationships with members, staff, and volunteers, a minimum of 2 years’ commitment is recommended. Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. 

     

    External:  Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    • SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

       

      • Four year degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience.
      • A minimum of two years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the educational development needs of young people.

       

      • Strong communication skills, understanding of group dynamics.

       

      • Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities.

       

      • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.

       

      • Valid Driver’s License with clear driving record and ability to secure Class B license.

       

       

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

       

    • Normal hearing, speech and visual acuity.
    •  

    • Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.
    •  

    • Walking around and standing for an extended period of time.
    •  

    • Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance.
    •  

    • Use of hands and arms to pick up and carry supplies and equipment.
    •  

    • Finger dexterity required to manipulated objects with fingers, rather than work with whole hand(s) or arm(s); i.e., using a keyboard.
    •  

    • Ability to work in a very noisy environment.
    •
