ENO Field Engineer

Overview

Reporting to the Asset Manager, Energy North Operations Division, the Thermal Field Engineer provides critical engineering support for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of thermal generating plants, power systems, renewable energy assets, and associated facilities across the Energy North Operations Division. This role works closely with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot complex equipment issues, support outage recovery and emergency repairs, conduct root cause investigations, and recommend asset improvement and capital investment opportunities. The Thermal Field Engineer also contributes to the planning, design, and execution of capital projects, performs asset condition assessments and site inspections, and supports continuous improvement initiatives by promoting best practices, enhancing maintenance processes, and optimizing CMMS utilization to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, Environmental, and corporate safety programs, legislation, rules, and procedures, and participate in the continuous improvement of NTPC’s safety culture.

Ensure the safety of employees, contractors, visitors, and the public by reporting unsafe practices, identifying and mitigating hazards, providing site orientations, and maintaining safe work areas.

Participate in team meetings, planning activities, and workload coordination to support operational objectives, priorities, and financial planning.

Provide field engineering support for thermal generation assets, including troubleshooting equipment, supporting outage recovery, investigating failures, performing emergency repairs, and recommending corrective actions and capital investments.

Support the continuous improvement of operations and maintenance practices through process improvements, maintenance standards development, procedure updates, and effective utilization of the CMMS.

Support Asset Management, Projects and Engineering, and Finance by providing technical advice, conducting condition assessments and site inspections, and supplying operational information to support planning, budgeting, and capital project development.

Manage and monitor assigned capital projects, including project scoping, budgeting, procurement, contract administration, construction oversight, reporting, and project closeout in accordance with corporate policies and procedures.

Update and maintain asset management and technical records, including CMMS asset data, technical drawings, as-built documentation, and other engineering records.

Provide assistance and guidance to operations staff, trades personnel, contractors, and consultants, and make timely recommendations to improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of NTPC operations and equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Diploma in Engineering Technology from a recognized university is required. Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy engineering discipline is preferred, however other disciplines may be considered. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. 
• Minimum of two years of engineering experience in power generation, including a minimum of one year providing engineering support for operations and maintence work, preferably in diesel power plants, is required. 
• Must be a registered P.Eng (Professional Engineer) in Canada with flexibility to transfer membership to NAPEG.
• Class 5 driver's license or equivalent is required.
• Successful applicant must provide a successful criminal records check prior to commencing work.
• Knowledge of remote diesel and natural gas generating stations and support equipment.
• Ability to resolve conflicts and differences of professional opinion.

• Ability to work in a high stress industrial environments with strict adherence to safety regulations and procedures.
• Ability to work in a team environment with minimal direct supervision.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient use of computers and software including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products.

 

Salary for this position ranges from $66.22/hr.-$80.48/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $11,808 per year. Relocation assistance is provided. This position is based in Inuvik, NT.
