Description

The Nursing Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing student clinical site placements and clinical rotations across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Serving as the primary liaison between the academic institution, students, and healthcare agency partners, this role ensures all clinical placements meet institutional learning objectives, state board standards, and national accreditation criteria.

Key Responsibilities

1. Placement Coordination & Operations (40%)

  • Source, secure, and schedule clinical placement sites and preceptors for students across various clinical tracks (e.g., Med-Surg, Pediatrics, Mental Health, APRN).
  • Manage rotation schedules and student rosters using clinical management software (e.g., HealthStream, Exxat, Typhon, or CastleBranch).
  • Serve as the main point of contact for students, faculty, and clinical site managers regarding rotation logistics.
  • Troubleshoot scheduling conflicts, placement capacity limits, and site-related issues in a timely manner.

2. Compliance, Documentation & Accreditation (35%)

  • Verify and maintain student and faculty compliance requirements, including background checks, drug screenings, immunizations, CPR certifications, and site-specific onboarding modules.
  • Track, review, and execute Clinical Affiliation Agreements (CAAs) and contracts between the institution and clinical facility partners; ensure timely renewals.
  • Maintain complete and accurate clinical tracking records to support site visits, state board reporting, and accreditation reviews (e.g., CCNE, ACEN).
  • Prepare reports evaluating clinical learning environments, preceptor effectiveness, and student placement metrics.

3. Stakeholder & Community Engagement (15%)

  • Build and nurture strong collaborative relationships with hospital educators, nurse managers, clinic directors, and regional placement consortiums.
  • Represent the School of Nursing at regional placement meetings, networking events, and healthcare workforce forums.
  • Conduct regular site evaluations and student orientations at healthcare facilities as needed.

4. Student & Preceptor Support (10%)

  • Conduct orientation sessions for nursing students regarding placement policies, clinical conduct, and compliance deadlines.
  • Orient and support clinical preceptors and adjunct faculty on curriculum objectives, evaluation methods, and documentation tools.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Healthcare Administration, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience: * 2–4 years of administrative support, clinical coordination, or academic program management experience in healthcare or higher education.
  • Technical Skills: * Proficiency with healthcare compliance tracking tools and clinical placement platforms (e.g., Centralized Clinical Placement System, HealthStream).
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams) and Google database management.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Relationship Management: Strong interpersonal skills to negotiate contracts and build long-term partnerships with healthcare organizations.
    • Attention to Detail: Meticulous tracking of multi-faceted compliance and legal documentation.
    • Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve scheduling bottlenecks and emergency placement cancellations with minimal disruption to student timelines.
    • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across academic and clinical audiences.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work Setting: Hybrid or office-based within an academic or clinical environment.
  • Travel: Occasional local travel to clinical sites, partner hospitals, and regional consortium meetings.
