What you will be doing:
- Design and development of high-performance electrical machines, power electronics units, energy storage systems and electromechanical systems for aerospace applications by understanding and solving challenging engineering problems
- Perform calculations and conduct some structural, thermal, and vibration analyses
- Collaborate with electrical, thermal, systems engineers, interfacing parties and other stakeholders to optimise motor architecture and packaging.
- Work closely with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and testing teams to lead design through from concept to production.
- Navigate the design through gated review process, presenting technical justifications to Seniors Engineers and addressing regulatory compliance.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, technical reports and other documentation in line with standards and processes that are self-checked and of high quality.
- Formally manage technical risks, ensuring that the designs are Safe, Reliable and Durable.
- Drive down technical risk through use of small-scale prototypes, material testing, manufacturing trials or similar, in order to complement and validate analyses
- Work with Validation and Verification Engineers to develop a V&V strategy.
- Identify and launch technology development activities to address technical risks where appropriate.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree or Master's in Engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience
- Experience of innovative and collaborative working within cross-functional teams to deliver high performance product designs.
- Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, cost engineering and product definition.
- An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems to make and justify balanced decisions across technical and business parameters
- Strong technical communication through Technical Writing, Live Presenting and CAD. Familiarity with Siemens NX and Teamcenter would be an advantage for the role
- Knowledge and experience of product integrity and aerospace certification frameworks
- Experience with the mechanical design, manufacture, service or integration of high-performance electric machines is a strong advantage.
