Description
Graduate Engineer - Mechanical Engineering (Feb 2027 Program)
The Role
As a Graduate at SMEC, you’ll be part of a high-impact talent group, contributing to the delivery of major infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists.
Our two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP) is designed to accelerate your growth — combining hands-on project experience with structured learning, mentoring, and exposure across teams and disciplines.
Once completed, successful Graduates move along our Career Pathways, transitioning to their Professional title (either ‘Graduate’ or ‘Scientist’ depending on the technical discipline) and then onwards. Growth is a balanced blend of experience, tenure, development, goals and desired trajectory.
What you can expect:
- Real project exposure from day one across major infrastructure projects
- A connected ANZ graduate network and strong peer community
- Mentoring from senior engineers and technical specialists
- Structured development through workshops, online learning, and immersive experiences
- Opportunities to build consulting skills including communication, collaboration, and problem-solving
- Industry and global networking opportunities across the SJ Group
- Ongoing development beyond the GDP, with support for further study
Key responsibilities:
You’ll support the delivery of real projects from day one — contributing to analysis, design and documentation while learning from experienced engineers and gaining exposure to project and client delivery.
- Contribute to project delivery by supporting the preparation of designs, calculations and technical analysis under the guidance of senior engineers
- Assist in the development of proposals, reports and technical documentation to support client and project outcomes
- Support Senior Engineers with analysing project information and applying engineering principles to real-world challenges
- Collaborate with project team members to ensure coordinated delivery across disciplines and project stages
- Develop your technical capability by learning and applying industry tools, standards and best practice through structured and on-the-job experience
About You
You’re a motivated Civil Engineering graduate who enjoys problem-solving, working in teams, and contributing to real-world projects.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment
- Exposure to engineering design software, such as AutoCAD with a willingness to further develop capability
At Surbana Jurong, we put talent, hard work, teamwork and a fun workplace together to approach problems and solve them creatively and collaboratively. Join us in making a positive impact on the world!
