About Hy-Vee

At Hy-Vee, we believe the shortest distance between two people is a smile. We're seeking people with a passion for customer service, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to being part of a team that strives to make our customers' lives easier, healthier and happier.

The Role and Why It's Important

At Hy-Vee, our floral department helps customers find the perfect arrangement for every occasion, and our Floral Clerks are a vital part of making those moments special. In this role, you'll assist customers with placing orders, create beginning-level floral designs, keep the department stocked and looking beautiful, and deliver the kind of warm, attentive service that keeps our customers coming back.

Whether you're building a balloon bouquet, sending an FTD order, or helping someone choose the perfect bouquet, your work brings joy to people every single day. If you have a creative spirit, enjoy working with people, and take pride in a job well done, we'd love to have you on our team.

What You'll Do

No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile and assisting them with placing floral orders in person or over the phone, including completing all required order paperwork

  • Prepare, finish, and replenish product including small floral and greenery arrangements, corsages and boutonnieres, roses, carnations, balloon bouquets, bows, and other floral items

  • Send and retrieve FTD, Teleflora, and computer orders; maintain confidentiality on all orders placed including sender, recipient, order details, and cost

  • Review floral products for freshness and anticipate daily product needs for the department

  • Water plants and maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of the department including coolers, counters, floors, and sinks

  • Prepare the daily delivery list and deliver orders as needed

  • Unload trucks, place product in appropriate storage areas, check in product, put product away, and process invoices as needed

  • Run the department register, receive payment, and make change as applicable

  • Remove trash in a timely manner and assist with general department upkeep

  • Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call

  • Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines

  • Pitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up

Your Skills

You don't need extensive experience for this role; we'll provide the training you need to succeed. To hit the ground running, you'll need to be able to:

  • Apply math skills including fractions, decimals, and percentages in day-to-day tasks

  • Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers and contribute positively to the team

  • Maintain confidentiality on customer order details including who sent, who received, and order contents
