Description
We are recruiting on behalf of a client for an Operations Manager to coordinate the end-to-end movement of mined commodities across road transport, storage facilities, port operations and ocean freight. The successful candidate will be a hands-on subject matter expert who can manage multiple stakeholders, optimise logistics networks and provide practical solutions in a fast-changing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate trucking, port operations, warehousing and ocean freight shipments in line with production plans and contractual obligations.
- Manage stock movements on the road and across storage locations, ensuring accurate reporting and control.
- Align transport allocations with mine production and outbound logistics requirements.
- Build productive relationships with offtakers, logistics service providers, shipbrokers, port authorities, warehouses and sampling agents.
- Monitor delivery performance, load optimisation, transit times and transportation costs.
- Identify operational risks and implement effective contingency plans.
- Analyse market trends and recommend operational improvements and cost-saving initiatives.
- Manage schedules, stock positions, forecasts and monthly operational statistics.
- Lead and develop a team of coordinators while promoting collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Support commercial negotiations and ensure compliance with applicable shipping regulations and Incoterms.
Requirements:
- Matric and a relevant tertiary qualification.
- Strong experience in commodity logistics, freight, shipping or a related operational environment.
- Sound knowledge of contract management, international shipping regulations, Incoterms and compliance requirements.
- Understanding of the economic, commercial, technical and political factors affecting shipping markets.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyse stock and operational data.
- Proven negotiation and stakeholder-management experience.
- Strong planning, risk-management, communication and problem-solving abilities.
- A resilient, adaptable and detail-focused approach, with the ability to perform under pressure.
- A proactive and collaborative leadership style with excellent follow-through.
