Job Purpose
The Entomologist will provide technical leadership for entomological surveillance, integrated vector management (IVM), GIS-based hotspot mapping, vector control planning, monitoring of mosquito breeding, and operational research to support malaria elimination activities.
Duty Station: Mumbai
Key Responsibilities
Conduct entomological surveillance in intervention wards.
Identify mosquito breeding habitats and vector density trends.
Support GIS-based mapping of malaria hotspots and vector breeding sites.
Develop evidence-based vector control strategies.
Monitor effectiveness of larval source management and vector control interventions.
Conduct insecticide resistance monitoring where applicable.
Support outbreak investigations and entomological assessments.
Train municipal staff and field workers on vector surveillance and control.
Supervise vector surveillance teams.
Prepare entomological reports and recommendations.
Participate in monthly review meetings and programme planning.
Support operational research and documentation of best practices.
Capacity Building
Train project staff, municipal teams, and healthcare workers on monitoring tools, data quality, digital reporting systems, and use of programme data.
Build institutional capacity within BMC for routine monitoring, performance review, and evidence-based planning.
Mentor ward coordinators and technical staff on data management and reporting.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in Entomology, Medical Entomology, Zoology, Life Sciences, Public Health Entomology, or related discipline.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in vector-borne disease programmes.
Experience in malaria vector surveillance and integrated vector management.
Experience using GIS tools is desirable.
Experience working with government programmes is preferred.
