Description
We're looking for a Legal Operations Business Partner to join our London team on a 12 month fixed term contract.
About the role
Our Legal Operations Business Partners are aligned to one of the firm's Practice Groups. This strategic role focuses on improving how legal services are delivered to support efficient, profitable and high-quality matter delivery and client value.
The remit spans Legal Project Management, process improvement and change, data and financial insight, AI and technology-enabled delivery, training and bespoke client solutions. You will identify opportunities for improvement, translate them into practical solutions and lead their implementation and adoption.
You will also raise awareness of Legal Operations capabilities, drive engagement with the team's services, identify and track opportunities and demonstrate the value delivered.
In this role, you can expect to get involved in a variety of work including:
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to Practice Group growth objectives and the development of Legal Operations services.
- Act as a senior member of the Practice Group operations team, supporting the Legal Operations strategy, identifying opportunities to improve legal service delivery and contributing to client-facing opportunities and solutions.
Project and Matter Management
- Take responsibility for the end-to-end management of projects and matters, applying appropriate Legal Project Management disciplines and methodologies.
- Demonstrate an understanding of relevant types of legal work and use this knowledge to design tailored delivery solutions that meet lawyer and client needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve legal delivery by combining Legal Project Management, process, data, technology and AI to enhance efficiency, consistency and value.
Process Improvement and Change Management
- Analyse current-state processes and design future-state approaches that improve productivity, consistency, quality and efficiency.
- Facilitate workshops to understand problems, map processes and co-design practical solutions and new ways of working with stakeholders.
- Lead the implementation of operational change, working collaboratively with lawyers, Legal Tech and other specialists to test, refine and embed solutions.
- Build stakeholder engagement and trust to support the successful adoption and continuous improvement of new ways of working.
Data, Financial Management and Value
- Gather, analyse and interpret relevant data to generate actionable insights and support informed decision-making.
- Define appropriate KPIs, metrics and baselines to measure and demonstrate the impact and value of Legal Operations initiatives.
- Demonstrate strong financial and commercial acumen, including an understanding of pricing and financial models, billing and time-recording systems, matter economics and the relationship between operational improvements and profitability.
Technology, Systems and AI
- Understand the scope and application of legal technology, AI and generative AI, and how they can support legal service delivery and client solutions.
- Identify and assess appropriate technology and AI use cases, translating capabilities into practical workflows while recognising their limitations and where human expertise or process redesign is more appropriate.
- Understand the risk and governance considerations associated with technology and AI-enabled delivery, including human oversight, quality assurance, confidentiality, data protection and security.
Training and Development
- Design and deliver internal and client training, including bespoke solutions for senior stakeholders and in-house legal teams.
- Support the adoption of AI, technology and new ways of working through practical training, awareness and stakeholder engagement.
About you
We are looking for experienced Legal Operations professionals from professional services or the legal sector who can demonstrate a consultative mindset, strong knowledge of the legal profession and experience delivering operational and business change.
You will have the ability to translate strategic objectives and business problems into practical solutions, supported by strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
You will be an effective and credible stakeholder manager, comfortable working with senior lawyers, business professionals and clients. You will be able to understand client needs, contribute to client conversations and pitches, shape practical Legal Operations solutions and confidently articulate the value and impact these can deliver.
You will have practical AI and technology literacy, with an understanding of how AI is changing legal service delivery. You will be able to identify credible use cases, understand where AI is and is not appropriate, and work collaboratively with lawyers and specialists to translate technology into practical improvements to legal workflows. Deep technical or coding expertise is not required.
Strong financial and commercial acumen is essential, including an understanding of how changes to delivery models can affect efficiency, profitability, pricing and client value.
Given the breadth of the role, you will demonstrate initiative, adaptability, strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail. Collaboration, curiosity, diversity of thought and a focus on delivering measurable impact are central to the role and wider team.
We will invest in your ongoing training and development to support your professional goals and help you to thrive in your role from day one. Our opportunities are open to all suitably qualified applicants, so to be considered for this role, you must meet the following skills and experience:
Education / Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent.
- PRINCE2, or equivalent project management experience/qualification.
- Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent process improvement experience/qualification.
- Relevant AI, legal technology or digital transformation training would be advantageous but is not essential.
Office and Technology Skills
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills for analysis.
- Experience using process-mapping tools.
- Comfortable using AI-enabled tools in a professional environment and developing sufficient knowledge of emerging technologies to assess their relevance to legal service delivery.
