The Sanford College of Education at National University is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Assessment and Accreditation to lead assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement efforts across a growing portfolio of credential and non-credential academic programs.
This director-level role reflects the College's growth and commitment to advancing student learning outcomes, academic quality, and accreditation excellence. As the College's primary assessment and accreditation leader, you will collaborate with faculty, academic leadership, curriculum teams, instructional designers, and university partners to ensure compliance with state, regional, and national accreditation standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

About the Role
Reporting to the Dean of the Sanford College of Education with a strong working and reporting relationship to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the Director of Assessment and Accreditation serves as the college's subject matter expert for assessment, accreditation, student learning outcomes, and program effectiveness.
This role will oversee assessment and accreditation activities for credential and non-credential programs and serve as the primary liaison between the College and university offices responsible for assessment, institutional research, accreditation, and curriculum governance.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in guiding faculty and program leaders through assessment planning, accreditation reporting, program reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with university, state, and accreditation expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment Leadership
- Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of academic assessment throughout the College.
- Manage annual student learning outcomes assessments and comprehensive program reviews.
- Develop and maintain assessment processes, tools, dashboards, rubrics, surveys, and reporting methodologies.
- Analyze student learning and program effectiveness data to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Produce reports and recommendations for academic leadership, faculty, and university stakeholders.
- Serve as the College's lead administrator for assessment management systems and assessment dashboards.
Accreditation Leadership
- Serve as the primary college contact for accreditation and state approval activities.
- Lead preparation of self-studies, annual reports, accreditation submissions, quality assurance reports, and accreditation responses.
- Guide compliance efforts related to:
- California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
- WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)
- Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP)
- Other relevant accreditation and approval agencies
- Support accreditation site visits, review processes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Faculty and Program Support
- Partner with faculty, program directors, department chairs, curriculum leaders, and instructional designers to improve student learning assessment practices.
- Provide training, coaching, and consultation on assessment methodologies and accreditation requirements.
- Support development and revision of:
- Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
- Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
- Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)
- Assessment maps
- Rubrics and evaluation tools
- Help faculty translate assessment findings into actionable program improvements.
Curriculum and Quality Assurance
- Review new and revised program and course proposals to ensure student learning can be effectively assessed.
- Collaborate with curriculum and instructional design teams to strengthen quality assurance and assessment alignment.
- Promote evidence-based practices and continuous improvement across credential and non-credential programs.
- Ensure assessment and accreditation requirements are incorporated into curriculum development processes.
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a member of the Dean's Cabinet and College leadership team.
- Contribute to strategic planning, quarterly operating reviews, and special projects.
- Collaborate with university assessment, accreditation, institutional research, and data operations leaders.
- Identify opportunities to improve assessment processes and strengthen organizational effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Doctoral degree in Education or a closely related field.
Experience
- Minimum eight (8) years of higher education assessment and accreditation experience.
- Experience supporting assessment and accreditation within a College of Education or educator preparation environment.
- Experience with teacher credentialing programs.
- Experience with accreditation site visits and accreditation reporting.
- Experience working with:
- California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
- Regional and/or programmatic accreditation agencies
- Student learning outcomes assessment
- Program review processes
- Experience conducting data analysis and using assessment findings to inform decision-making.
- Experience working with graduate and/or online education programs.
- Experience using assessment management systems and student information systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting AAQEP accreditation processes.
- Experience working directly with CTC committees or serving as a consultant in accreditation activities.
- Established professional relationships within CTC or educator preparation communities.
- Experience with non-credential program assessment and national accreditation.
- Advanced proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or related reporting tools.
- Experience with Anthology or similar higher education platforms.
