GCEFCU is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with strong accounting expertise who is committed to accuracy, collaboration, and delivering exceptional results.
This position will be located at our Pasadena branch with the schedule of M-F 8:00am-5:00pm.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Prepares, reviews, and verifies journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to financial records. Prepares, examines, and analyzes accounting records, reconciliations, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformity with established accounting and reporting standards. Prepares assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end entries, reconciliations, schedules, and reports accurately and timely. Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain supporting information and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Performs various accounting transactions in support of the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department. Ensures assigned daily accounting functions are completed accurately and timely. Researches and resolves discrepancies and assists with correcting accounting transactions as necessary.
- Posts and reconciles investment activity and payments and reconciles Federal Home Loan Bank accounts. Maintains investment accounting records, including investment file and yield updates, and prepares assigned month-end investment reporting. Processes and reconciles fixed assets and prepaid expenses monthly. Analyzes financial records and prepares supporting schedules related to assets, expenses, reserves, and other assigned accounts.
- Reconciles officer pay and related general ledger accounts and prepares applicable tax reporting. Balances federal income tax withholding and prepares Form 945 and related year-end reporting. Performs other specialized accounting and regulatory reporting functions as assigned.
- Processes and reports unclaimed property and escheat activity annually. Maintains and updates reporting procedures and requirements for applicable states and ensures required reports and remittances are completed accurately and timely.
- Provides a high level of accounting support to Credit Union employees by researching transactions, resolving errors and discrepancies, and responding to accounting-related questions and inquiries. Responds professionally to member inquiries when applicable and directs members to the appropriate staff for additional assistance.
- Assists in developing, documenting, maintaining, and implementing accounting policies and procedures. Identifies opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, documentation, and efficiency. Ensures assigned procedures remain current and accurately reflect accounting processes.
- Assists with internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and other financial reviews by preparing schedules, gathering supporting documentation, researching questions, and responding to requests related to assigned accounting functions. Assists with implementing corrective actions related to accounting findings when applicable.
- Provides training and technical guidance to accounting staff on assigned accounting functions, procedures, systems, reconciliations, and other departmental processes. Assists with cross training staff to promote adequate backup coverage and consistency within the Accounting Department. Serves as a resource to less experienced accounting staff by answering questions and assisting with the research and resolution of accounting issues. Maintains current job knowledge and serves as backup for other critical accounting functions as needed. Participates in educational opportunities and completes required training by assigned deadlines. Performs other job related duties as assigned.
- Responsible for identifying reportable transactions under the Bank Secrecy Act, obtaining required information, and reporting transactions in accordance with established procedures. Complies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations and NCUA requirements.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
- (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
