Job Purpose

The Superintendent (Structural/Welding) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all structural fabrication, assembly, fit-up, welding, and erection activities within CRPO (Construction, Repair, Projects & Offshore) projects. The role ensures work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, classification society requirements, and project schedules.


Key Responsibilities

Project Execution

  • Supervise structural fabrication, welding, assembly, and erection activities for offshore and marine projects.
  • Coordinate daily production activities to ensure project milestones and schedules are achieved.
  • Monitor workforce productivity and optimize resource utilization across fabrication and construction areas.
  • Review engineering drawings, work packages, welding procedures, and project specifications before execution.
  • Ensure compliance with approved construction methodologies and work processes.

Welding & Structural Management

  • Oversee all welding activities in accordance with approved WPS, PQR, and applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Monitor structural fabrication activities including cutting, fit-up, alignment, assembly, and installation.
  • Ensure weld quality requirements are maintained and all repairs are minimized through effective supervision.
  • Coordinate with Quality Control teams regarding inspections, NDT activities, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ensure welding consumables, materials, and equipment are properly controlled and utilized.

HSE Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with HSE policies and procedures.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, and pre-job safety briefings.
  • Ensure all personnel adhere to permit-to-work systems and site safety requirements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and implement corrective actions when required.

Planning & Coordination

  • Work closely with Engineering, Planning, Production, Quality, and Project Management teams.
  • Monitor progress against schedules and identify potential delays or bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and ensure work is completed in line with project expectations.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide regular progress reports.

 

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all fabrication and welding activities comply with project specifications, client requirements, and international standards.
  • Support internal audits, client inspections, and third-party inspections.
  • Maintain accurate records of production progress, welding activities, and inspection status.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise foremen, supervisors, welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel.
  • Evaluate team performance and identify training needs.
  • Promote teamwork and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in welding inspection or welding management are preferred.
  • Relevant welding and fabrication qualifications will be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in structural fabrication, welding, and construction within offshore, marine, shipyard, EPC, or heavy industrial projects.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent-level position.
  • Extensive experience in CRPO projects, offshore structures, jackets, topsides, modules, vessel repairs, or marine construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication shop and site construction operations.
