Job Description
We are presently seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager who will be responsible for leading a team of 11 (8 engineers and 3 technicians). This manager will lead the department to achieve greater efficiency and productivity to meet operational and financial goals, help develop, train and sustain a positive, high-energy workforce in a continuous improvement environment, and meet customer schedules, specifications and quality requirements. This role will report to the Director of Operations.
What You’ll Do:
- Effectively manage and mentor the Manufacturing Engineering department with an emphasis on employee growth, project success, customer satisfaction, and site performance;
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws;
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; immediately addressing complaints and resolving problems;
- Create and conduct performance reviews based on performance and input received from cross-functional feedback;
- Recommend annual merit increases;
- Assist in the formation of annual budgetary plans, strategic goal setting and other annual planning;
- Must be comfortable being a hands-on type leader who will come alongside employees to truly understand their concerns and remove barriers to success;
- Must have effective problem resolution skills with big picture awareness;
- Provide regular status reports for ongoing programs and support efforts within the group;
- Monitor projects for compliance with schedule and budget;
- Work with other departments and engineering teams to forecast realistic project schedules and costs;
- Adherence to all corporate policies and procedures;
- Maintain site and corporate information on engineering projects;
- Identify opportunities with manufacturing processes that result in significant improvement, including yield increases, cost reductions, capacity increases, and capability advancements;
- Devise techniques for maximizing the output of work areas/facilities;
- Provide strong leadership and vision to the workforce;
- Provide support for employees/teams to accomplish assigned tasks;
- Assume shared responsibility for plant performance along with other functional managers;
- Ensure appropriate metrics are maintained for team performance;
- Assure standard work/best practices are documented and in place;
- Support and encourage an innovative and creative problem-solving environment;
- Participate in supervisory and management meetings as required;
- Develop and implement tools for enabling a smooth daily operation of all processes.
What You Need:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering preferred or similar experience (Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical or other engineering discipline (Master’s degree preferred);
- A minimum of 2 years management experience;
- Must be able to work with other engineering groups to solve complex issues;
- Experience managing and mentoring engineers and technicians;
- Demonstrated Leadership skills including excellent supervisory, communication (both verbal and written), organizational and reasoning skills;
- Prior experience in program management of large-scale projects involving multiple engineering disciplines and cross functional involvement;
- Prior experience in at least 3 of the following manufacturing processes: mechanical assembly, electronics soldering and assembly, epoxy encapsulation applications, ceramic-to-metal sealing, tracer gas leak testing, machining, welding and high voltage testing.
- Experience with the formal qualification of systems to industry standards in defense safety systems;
- Ability to multitask managing multiple projects at the same time;
- Able to quickly gain the confidence and cooperation of others;
- At least 5 years experience in a manufacturing and/or regulatory environment;
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans;
- Customer-focused manager with demonstrated ability to schedule, forecast and meet deadlines;
- Believer and driver of continuous improvement activities that will deploy Lean methodology and Six Sigma quality throughout the organization;
- Collaborative partner who is capable of and willing to work with peers and company leadership to foster an organization with World Class standard operating practices and quality systems;
- High sense of urgency and a pro-active approach to problem solving;
- Self-assured individual who inspires trust and confidence. Focuses on success of others through listening, sharing ideas and recognition;
- High energy and action oriented;
- Unwavering level of integrity and good business ethics;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Clearance;
- Due to the requirements from the Department of Energy, U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED;
- This position requires the use of information that is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
