Summary:
The Security Architect, VP leads the Security Architecture team within Product Security at Charles River Development. The role manages a team of Security Architects and is accountable for the quality, pace and consistency of security architecture decisions across our products.
The successful candidate will lead complex reviews from the front, develop the team to operate independently, and scale the practice through approved patterns, clear standards and automation.
The role works closely with engineering, architecture, product, DevSecOps, security testing teams. The role requires the ability to handle ambiguity, lead senior stakeholder discussions and drive complex matters to a clear decision
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Security Architecture team, including coaching, performance management and career development.
- Own the day-to-day running of the practice, including intake, prioritization, workload allocation, quality and escalations.
- Build a team that makes sound decisions independently, with only novel or high-risk matters escalated.
- Lead complex security architecture reviews and threat-modelling engagements across products, platforms and cloud services.
- Provide clear security positions on identity, authentication, authorization, trust boundaries, data isolation, secrets, cryptography, logging and data protection.
- Represent Security Architecture in architecture review and governance forums, and with senior engineering and product leaders.
- Translate policies and standards into practical security requirements, approved patterns and reference architectures.
- Partner with DevSecOps and platform teams to turn recurring requirements into reusable controls, secure defaults and automation.
- Define clear design commitments that can be validated through security assurance and security testing, and use the results to improve patterns and standards.
- Report to leadership on review demand, material risks, dependencies and open decisions.
Education:
- B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another technical field required.
- M.S. degree preferred.
Qualifications/Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in security architecture, product security, application security or security engineering, including strong secure-SDLC and threat-modelling experience.
- 3+ years of direct people management, leading and developing security professionals.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex architecture reviews and influencing senior engineering and product stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently in ambiguous situations, form clear recommendations and drive decisions to closure.
- Deep knowledge of web application, API, cloud (Azure preferred), microservices and distributed-system security.
- Strong knowledge of identity, authentication, authorization, cryptography, secrets management, secure logging and monitoring.
- Experience integrating security requirements with CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps guardrails or platform controls.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain risk simply to both engineers and executives.
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
- Experience building or scaling a security architecture practice, pattern library or reference architecture programme.
- Knowledge of AI security, agentic AI or AI-assisted security tooling.
- Experience in financial services or another regulated environment.
- Certifications such as CISSP, SABSA, TOGAF, CCSP, OSCP or equivalent.
