Legal Counsel

Location: Helsinki / hybrid

Capalo AI is an energy technology company building AI software to optimize and trade large-scale battery storage across European electricity markets.

Earlier this year, we raised €11M in Series A funding after a year of rapid growth our contracted battery capacity grew more than 5× to over 1 GW, revenue increased fivefold, and the team doubled in size.

Today we work with leading renewable energy investors and battery operators across Europe, and as we continue to expand, we’re looking for a Legal Counsel to help support the next phase of our growth.

The Role

As Legal Counsel, you will be the go-to legal partner across the company. You will work closely with leadership, commercial teams, and operations to support growth across multiple European markets.

This role combines commercial law, energy regulation, and technology-related legal matters ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex legal challenges in a fast-moving environment.

You will have real ownership and the opportunity to help build internal legal processes as the company scales.

What You’ll Do

• Drafting and negotiating contracts

  • Energy trading agreements

  • Customer and supplier contracts

  • Data, SaaS, and platform agreements

• Contract risk management

  • Identify legal and commercial risks in trading and supply contracts

  • Define liability structures, indemnities, force majeure, settlement terms

• Supporting trading and commercial teams

  • Provide legal guidance during deal structuring and negotiations

  • Translate legal constraints into workable commercial solutions

• Regulatory alignment

  • Ensure contracts comply with energy market rules (e.g., REMIT, market regulations, grid codes depending on region)

• Template and process development

  • Maintain contract templates and standard terms

  • Improve contract lifecycle processes and internal playbooks

• Dispute prevention and management

  • Handle contract interpretation issues, claims, and potential disputes

• Cross-functional advisory

  • Work with Business Development, Finance, Product, and People teams

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a business-minded legal professional who enjoys working close to the business and navigating complex regulatory environments.

You likely have:

• Master of Laws (LL.M.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)

• Experience of working in a law firm or in an in-house role in a fast-growth technology company and/or an international energy company

• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills

• Ability to balance legal protection with commercial pragmatism

• Interest in energy market structures and trading models, technology, or regulated industries

• Autonomy and ownership in high-value or complex deals

• Stakeholder influence with traders, executives, and external counterparties

• Risk awareness without blocking business operations

• Ability to provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to non-legal stakeholders

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Fluency in English

Experience in energy law, electricity markets, fintech, SaaS, or deep tech is a strong plus, but not required.
